4.5 or 5hr walks

Post by lateagian »

At today's WTL we were told by the manager that our new duties will include walk's of either 4.5 or 5hrs. Has the union any idea as to how we will be expected to do these walk's, as the over 50's at our office are expressing a lot of concern as to how they will manage. Is the union deaf to their concern's

2 men in a cdv with golf trolleys in the back they reckon 60% less sorting on the ips oh and by the way you will be doing 2.5-3 beats between the both of you.

Great if this becomes reality i cant wait NOOOTTTTT.

Theres the possabilty of splitting it into 2 deliveries aswell depending on your local agreement as ive allways said if this becomes reality im leaving the CWU and at present im a great follower of the CWU and will be sad to leave but if this is the best they can do for me then forget it.

But lets just see what comes out of the talks nothink is written in stone yet

You forgot to mention the limit being lifted on d2ds say bye-bye to 3 more like 5-6

Can anyone please tell me how the feck is this modernisation

Could you tell me why your office has 4.15 walks when the national agreement is still 3.30?

This is the problem with local agreements they undermine national agreements constantly.
It doesn't surprise me that whoever came up with the idea of 4.15 deliveries is nowhere to be seen now.
At the end of the day your Branch should have at least flagged it up to divisional level that your revision broke national guidelines.

Im in the north west same thing happened to us rep retired. Guess what no one wanted the reps job so i stood forward dont have a clue what im doing but lets just say since ive been rep ive got walks put back in to the office .got ag contracts made up and stopped lads from getting stages.repremands.

Why dont you stand and be counted and be the office rep you will soon get to grips with it .Your first task then would be to get all walks in your office at the nationally agreed time of 3.5 hrs . If you dont do it no one else is are they.

Everyday is battle with your DIM if your the rep, but just enjoy giving them a headache each an everyday even if its the slightest of issues you have to raise with him. It just reminds him that you are there at present he must be laughing his bolloxs having a free rein over you lads, and he will be laughing his bolloxs believe you me.

Dont do the reps job for praise or gratitude do it to make a difference and to defend the lads and lasses you work with.

If there are to be 5hr walks how does this affect part timers on permanent 20, 22.5 25 hour walks. I can understand RM taking away hours to suit them but can they make you work more hours than you are contracted to do if you have a permanent contract? Seems a bit short sighted if they can't. I have another job outside of RM after they cut my hours which, if I had to change hours I would lose.

Although i can't see walks as long as 5 hrs you have to remember only the length of you contracted hours is protected.
It would be legally possible for RM to ask you for instance to work four days at 5hrs rather than 5 days at 4hrs.

That would be interesting, 5 hour walk, half hour break, bagging up, travelling to and from walk, 3 day week, If that is the case it would provide me personally with more time to sort out another part time job to run in conjunction with my RM job, if they chose this sort of configuration. 3 days of 5 hours instead of 5 days of 3 and a half hours my workload would fall :dance

the over 50's in our office are more then worried about the length the walk's will now be. We tried to get a hold of someone from the CWU but their phone went onto voice mail, as of yet we have not heard a word from them.

The area rep came in and told us we should vote for 4hr deliveries as they were coming in anyway.
We voted on the understanding we wouldn't have to lapse on top of that but guess what......
Not park and loop, no trolleys just 4hr+ with a bag on your back.
This is apparently what passes for the union's position in certain areas of the far North.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
