£30 a week for what ?

got a bloke in our office that gets £30 every week to be a training officer !! Joke, he does no training, if a postman needs tuition he goes out with the person who knows the job. The trainer does nothing. It's a disgusting p**s take and how come this nice little earner is not open for anyone who wants to go for it ??

the money is pensionable as well
the coach on ours is well known for doing things wrong just ask IB
the thing that gets me is what was wrong with the old system, you got took out by the duty holder who knew the round intimately
and he got paid for it once not every week, he never came back asking the duty holder a load of questions as it's changed since he last did it, no doubt coaches do more than this, but not in my office they don't

all coaches are not like this and a lot do a lot for there money as well, helping out people and not necessarily a management bitch

I'm not saying the coaches arn't worth the money, the fact is they are not given enough time to do the coaching. You end up teaching yourself.

Our one is a diamond.

He trains all the new entrants on the walks they will be doing AFAIK. I think he also does the duty before to make sure he knows it and he keeps in contact with them after the training period to make sure they are OK.

On the Union side he is a stalwart of the picket line, and meetings. Never starts early and works to time or claims docket. He knows the rules and scams inside out and I will always ask him when I am unsure about something.

Ye he is on here but all of the above is true.

That all sounds great , but how come it's a job for life and not up for repick for someone else to have the £1500 per year extra for being a nice caring coach ? Looks and sounds like favouritism and does it break employment opportunity laws ???

At our place it was an interview and an assessment, and a written submission IIRC. If you wanted you could apply, just like for any job outside RM. He was successful and I hope the best candidate and when he leaves or quits the position then it will be open for interviews again - just like positions and job opportunities outside RM. If a coach was appointed by Management without a paper trail or selection by skills, interview or any other applicable tool then you may have a case and could possibly go for an ET once you have exhausted the grievance procedure.

I would suggest you check at your D.O if the WC role has been filled properley using correct procedures.
