Ok folks, does anyone know if there is a prescribed time to deliver one packet on a mainly residential suburban duty?
By my reckoning, on my job the average time to deliver one item is 4 minutes. This is based on first drop to last and doesn't include travelling to and from the office. It is also allowing people a reasonable time to get to the door, and time to write out the slip if they're not in, and of course, sticking to the speed limit.
I worked this out so that I can tell how long my duty is likely to take to complete, should I be asked to absorb, and I seem to have it pretty much spot on give or take a few minutes either way - count the number of items, multiply it by four, and there you have the expected time in minutes!

Re: Driver's packet delivery times
By my reckoning, 20 an hour is possible, but as you say, you only need to get caught in traffic...Fortunately, on my job I've worked out a route which avoids the traffic, so it's not an issue to me. But I know from covering another driving duty in the past that sometimes, there is just no way of avoiding the traffic, no matter how you plan your route.
But managers never seem to realise there are an infinite number of variables.

15 an hour should be easy enough, 20 possible without any traffic jams.

Re: Driver's packet delivery times
correct me if im wrong but there is no official standard for packet deliveries,i believe that the managers are intent on setting there own standards up.
if someone can maybe point the way and maybe show me where or when there was an agreed amount of packets to be delivered in a specific time.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Driver's packet delivery times
will all you guys please stop saying we have to do so many per hour in our office as you are letting a manager put in place his/her own personal view point on how many packets should be delivered in x amount of time, again please correct me if this is wrong but there is no agreed standard for packets.

Re: Driver's packet delivery times
It takes as long as ......no set times and can't be they need to allow for traffic etc no computer can dial that in so don't panic , yes they can come up with all sorts of sh*t but you can scupper them every time
