1 in 4 jobs could be lost.
When we returned yesterday we were all called together on the floor, our manager informed us we will be lossing 1 in 5 duties and maybe 1 in 4 when we start park and loop duties. Have any other office started this yet and what was the percentage if lost duties.

Hang fire - the agreement that covers this has not even been finalised never mind agreed. Royal Mail agreed to not impose any EAs whilst discussions are ongoing so they should not be able to impose it. The new agreement should have guidelines to help both sides once we have agreed it.
However, IIRC before the 2007 agreement was accepted we had the exact same tactic.
1. Tell the staff how bad it could it be and paint the worst picture possible.
2. Once the agreement has been accepted, (mainly due to fear of the consequences of a No vote and any sweeteners), then take a realistic look at the situation and taking into account local conditions, come up with a plan that goes to the limits of the agreements.
3. Present this plan to the staff pointing out that the plan at 2 is better than the plan 1, and what a good egg I am making it better.
The outcome is therefore exactly what management wanted because people think "well its not as bad as it could have been" - wrong it never was going to happen, they used fear to get what they wanted. If they had not tried and succeeded with this tactic, the Union would have more input and the duties would have been more achievable and manageable and chaos management would not make a daily appearance.

Exactly right TBT, this sort of tactic has been used successfully throughout history and in all types of business. Trouble is, there is not a lot you can do. As the saying goes, "you can fool some of the people some of the time but you can,t fool all of the people all of the time"TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Hang fire - the agreement that covers this has not even been finalised never mind agreed. Re: 1 in 4 jobs could be lost.
In an office of 82 staff we lost 10 duties due to georoute and vanshare being brought in. Total loss of 380hours but we have had 60 hours put back in and every duty is now 4+ hours. Our office is way over budget and the job is now one big slog with people unable to complete on a regular basis. I believe RM want this type of delivery system brought in throughout the country along with team working. Lets hope our union leaders can save us, but don't hold your breath.

That's exactly what the so-called "SCOTLAND C&D BUSINESS PLAN" was.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Hang fire - the agreement that covers this has not even been finalised never mind agreed. What it definately was not,was a business plan.
It was simply designed to scare the sh1t out of anybody who read it.
After reading that, anything else will seem like the deal of the century.
The only two questions are did mamagement leak it to the union to scare the sh1t out of them?
And did the union leak it to us for the same purpose?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: 1 in 4 jobs could be lost.
we've been told sorta the same thing. 1 in 5 duties gone or made to part time if the new routes are rejected. area rep says they cant but they have already put the new walks up on the board and had all the new frame address labels printed off and everything.management even said "its messy bringing it in by EA but we have done it in other offices". to me that a threat. this is all on going now and not something that happened before the talks started. imho now we are coming out of the xmas pressure things are going to get extremely dark. shame really.

We had our office assessed and the 'word on the street' ( Thanks Huggy) is that all the driving duties will be lost bar maybe one to do the mail collections.
But we need to see stuff in black and white first and not let the rumour and scaremongering start to divide us
and ruffle our feathers - cos that's they want us to do!

From a selfish point of view I want out NOW. Been with Royal Mail for over twenty five years and the job is sinking faster than the Titanic.
At present due to arthritis I'm stuck in the callers office. The job is mega stressful and I don't do stress very well. If I have to carry on too much longer I'll end up in the funny farm

Soon be time to stoke up the braziers, don the duffelcoat, and knock up new strike posters. Been watching the Band of Brothers dvds over christmas. We need to stick together, the war is coming, we might lose a few foot soldiers on the way, but we must not give in to intimidation. The four Hitlers think they are indestructible, but look what happened to Adolf when he tried to take on the Russians during the winter.
