I was sorry to read the comment about us whinging at the MDEC. We have always been looked on as the poor relations and not appreciated for what we do. I would ask people not to judge something when they do not really know what goes on within our roles as data entry keyers and the compexities which have gradually crept into the role. I think we all have to appreciate that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it is up to them at the end of the day whether they support their Union. I will be withdrawing my labour again tomorrow although obviously don't relish a further drop in pay at the end of the month - and there could well be more to follow. My main reason for taking this action is exactly as set out in the Solidarity "hand out" and I hope that, when the time comes, we at the MDEC will get the backing we need and deserve. I see what the union is doing but one day strikes are not working, this is obvious from RM's lack of interest in fresh negotiations. The union need a new approach and yes longer strikes is possibly the way, but they have to consider MDEC cut off dates for pay so to allow people less hardship. I have a list of these dates if anyone thinks this will be of use.

I really don't know what to do tomorrow, it should be simple but

Mdec mate im understanding what you are saying and stuff but lets try and remember one thing.... RM wil be a SHITE place to work if they think the union has no power , and how they will determine that is by these very strikes......i.e...seeing people turn their back on the union will only encourage them that they just have to sit and wait til the union cracks!!!! Maybe i have taken the union for granted over the years... but my eyes are open now and i appreciate what they have done for me over 15 years and im backing them even tho I DONT AGREE AND CANT AFFORD TO!!!! Make a similar effort mate , lose the saturday nights out for a while maybe, few cut backs for a while and this might be all over, but it will NOT be over if RM see support for the union falling away. Im praying for an early end to this... come on CWU get a 5 dayer in before support does indeed start falling!!!!!!!

Ginger, the mdec are looked on as poor relations cause that is where mdec management want you, the keyers that turn in for work are only making it difficult for any disparity in pay to be brought into line with opg rate as they do not seem prepared to stand up for themselves, therefore leaving it to the select few.

In response to " I would ask people not to judge something do not really know what goes on " there are plenty of posties on here who used to perform keying as Phg's ( I am one of those ) in essence the job is the same now as it was when it was performed in mc's.

The point on cut-off dates is good and valid one, they should be fed to CWU headquarters thru area reps for this to be taken into account when organising possible i/a dates.
