Will we get a pay rise ?

Post by headscrewedon »

If and when these discussions ever get concluded, what do people think we should be looking for in terms of pay ? I know that pay was not the reason we went out, but the fact remains we had a pay-freeze imposed in April and my bills keep going up and up. Council tax is going up by about 4% soon, and the VAT rate is going back up to 17.5% shortly, which retailers will doubtless use to disguise raising prices by more than is justified.

I can't see us getting a backdated-to-April-2009 pay increase for the current financial year, so I'd like to see our negotiators seeking a fatter percentage increase for the coming year, plus - if D2Ds are to be absorbed into workload - a further percentage on top for accepting that (not a lump sum we only get once and that's yer lot, mate). Also, what about RM's plans to switch us to being paid monthly ? We all know they would like it, but what should we be asking for in return to agreeing to it ?

Like it or not, now we've been in dispute, we must get a just and proper settlement on pay out of this dispute, otherwise I can see us getting to April 2010 and being called on to lose yet more money in another dispute, this time with pay as the issue

no deal can be done until we accept nationally by voting for agreements to be or not accepted

Any pay settlement or "rewards package" will be so complex you will need your own accountant. :cuppa
Please read the small print before casting your vote.
Remember any pay settlement will only be a small part of this agreement.
If the conditions make the job unbearable, pay soon becomes irrelevant. :hmmmm

True, but if the pay is frozen and we're worse and worse off through rising petrol, council tax, rent/mortgage, food etc, the conditions are irrelevant, as I won't be able to live on Royal Mail wages :whistle

If RM and the union are recommending it then I'll have to vote against it :Very Happy

Trouble is that if there is the prospect of backpay or a lumpsum,
however small, there will be people who will vote yes just for that.

a pay rise should be just that a rise in pay with no strings.................ever since i joined royal mail all pay agreements have taken something or other off of us
we jus sell back what has been achieved thru hasrd work by the unions on previoue occassions eg. job and finish

As a point of principle I will vote against anything agreed between RM/CWU as neither of them have my interest at heart. :no no :no no

A pay rise? Now there's a novel idea, maybe we should ask the union to try and negotiate one for us - they can't manage without an increase in subs but magically we seem to be able to manage without a pay increase - their costs are going up but ours must be the same as 3 years ago because over the last 3 years we have had a derisory amount in increases.
