Are we low paid?

Just thinking today beeing sent out in blizzards ,the health and safety aspect and,,,,,why the heck am i still working for this company! Had our pay froze( REALLY A PAY DECREASE AS EVERYTHING BILLS FOOD ETC MORE EXPENSIVE), our pay is standing still while we are working like donkeys not just in this horrible weather but in offices all over the uk. If you said to someone in the street ill give you £30 to £40 to do my 4 hour walk in the blizzards and driving wind theyd tell you to f ,,, off! Rubbish winter uniform and why are our bags still not waterproof ,,not rocket science! Back to pay once youre bills etcs paid youre left with hardly anything , sorry for moaning mr crozier i know you struggle too,youre huge bonus might help again though! Come on union were all fed up!

Well i am about to be shot down for this but NO i dont think i am underpaid, i an certainly not overpaid though
I work a very small amount of overtime (just easy driving stuff or counter) and i earn what a manager earns in a store in my town. However i am early forties, full time with a affordable lifestyle and not just starting out with a mental mortgage and young kiddies.

Of course this is a low paid job, you just have to look in the car park and see the age of the cars posties drive, then look at the type of homes they live in and where they are. Then have a look at workers at an average factory or office and compare. I am retired with a pension from a previous job (so I'm OK Jack) but this is no job for a young man who would like to provide his family with their own home in a nice area and 2 family cars. This is the best job and the worst paid job I have ever done. I own my own home, we have 2 new cars and a holiday home abroad but the income from Royal Mail hasn't help provide any of it. The average postie has to ask what the future holds, most are not interested in management which is the only progression you can make in RM. A couple of posties at my office are doing Open University courses with a view to getting out of RM, and who could blame them.

At least we have a job and steady income - thousands of people unemployed this christmas - please spare a thought for them.

145 basic still do the same job just dont come in 3 hours earlier than the rest to stand about getting the walks ready .

we rush in at 8:30 stressed to the max watching everyone leaving with thre nice juicy pay cheque.

we barely have enough money for the bus home.

Here's my 20p for what it's worth.....

I personally think we are not paid enough. Yes I know it is an unskilled job and I am aware there is a high rate of unemployment. However it is a pretty hard job which I think the pay doesn't reflect. I get up at the crack of dawn to attend work. I then have to stand for 2(+) hours on the IPS. I then have another 1-2 hours standing to prep my duty. I then have to walk for 3.5-4.5 hours in whatever weather Mother Nature decides to throw at me. The job is both mentally and physically demanding. Yes I know people say if you don't like your job then leave. Not just as easy as that. We would all like to be appreciated for the days work we do. Our management will never appreciate what we do so the only way I see they can show they do appreciate us is by a decent pay rate. Hence us not getting a pay rise this year.

I personally think £300 take home per week is not being greedy considering what we do each day. Yes I know there is good days and bad days and there is pros and cons within the job. However all in all, I think the bad days and the cons might just out weigh the good days and pros.

My view is the pay we get is a big improvement on old ( my first years pay as a Telegram boy was £1380.46p lol) , up until some years ago you were told in your interview " you dont make money, you make time on the PO" . Nowadays you make reasonable money, but hardly or no time , so it has swung the other way , many will say to far and I agree. I think nowadays we earn every penny we get.

we are not well paid 10.00 an hour is reasonable , no chance of that, i have worked in many other jobs though with skills and in some areas the pay is equivelent to a skilled trade considering d2d payments which average it out to about 9.20 an hour ,on some of the best rounds you also get to finish early so child care costs are lower and you spend more time with your children( cant put a price on that) you can also have another job or do private work if your not too tired so at the end of the day its not bad but i still think because of the weather aspect it should be slightly better paid many times i have wanted to quit in rain and windy weather it slows you down and theres no compo for that.

That's not really an accurate measure. The minimum wage is £5.80ph, but there is no maximum - hence the 'average' will always be skewed towards a higher amount than the majority of people actually get.

If you think near £20k a year is low for an unskilled job, just go and have a look in your local job centre and see how much skilled tradesmen are being offered.

tell you what its not about anybody else like "thousands are without a job"and "unskilled workers" we do a damn hard job with little thanks and for less a week than a top banker pays for a bottle of wine, so before we all drop to our knees with thanks for having a job lets add up the cost of living and then we will see we are vastly underpaid

Easy, Government can answer this question. They suggest that anyone on a full time income of less than £20,000 are in the low pay bracket. We are low paid.
