After 20 years its my last day today.... Thank you ATOS.

Here it is lads, didnt think this day would happen for another 24 years. Having entered the service ( i refuse to call it a business ) in 1989 as a 16 year old cadet then a postman then a doorkeeper back as a postman then a doorkeeper ( they were the days ) and finally back as a postman ( I used to be indecisive - but im not sure now )
Having had a few very nasty illnesses since my sick absence started in july ( poisioning from airwicks !! then having recovered from that went to jersey for a few days to get 100 percent went down with pneumonia which after losing 2 stone in 6 weeks caused me to suffer the most horrendous of depression.
I used to laugh when on delivery the people who I have delivered to for years tell me that they were suffering for depression. My views on this have now reversed. It is the most dreadful of illnesses , panic attacks awful insomnia etc etc. Being a rep for more years than I can remember certaintly didnt help.
Many colleagues post on here critizing their DOMs , However during my 6 months off he was terrific. No constant ringing of the telephone or trying to rush me back . He was the geninue article. The type of manager you used to deal with when the job was the real deal all those years ago.
Im not just saying this because I was the rep and he was the boss. We had many arguments and stand offs, however not once did he hold a grudge ( which is most unusual in todays royal mail )
However, having had a final meeting with the ATOS doctor a pay off was offered ( and gladly accepted ) a few days later with my final day being today.
I am sorry to be leaving. My health takes priority , its a big relief I am out because I wouldnt have lasted one day had I gone back ( river or losing my rag would have both been odds on chances )
I cant see me working for a long while due to my health but for a long time things are looking up.
