This xmas I have told my DOM that I do not want to work over my time and I told him I was interested in the early shift they have on; this is basically IPS, other sorting, throwing rounds off, followed by helping the PHG's out and done, you finish on your time with no pressures to complete which is what I wanted.

The first of three weeks of the xmas schedule and I did a couple of the early shifts, the other days I was drafted onto rounds which in his words where "we need you to do those, as we have no cover" - a little disgruntled I did them and luckily finished on time, so I didn't have to book OT or worse still not complete.

This week I have been on a different round everyday including packet delivering duties and have finished on my time or in the case of the packet duty day I had to bring some back as I didn't have time to finish them, so they have been warned that I won't work OT. I don't like the idea of not completing and this week is the first I have ever not completed in 10 xmas's of working for RM. I told my DOM earlier in the week that I still would really like to do these early shifts, again as I don't want the OT and he said he'd have a look and again stated that he might need me to do rounds that no-one spare knows. Today the duty sheet gets put up and I see next week I am once again on different jobs everyday and not on the earlies I hoped for. I look at the rounds I am on and see that they are rounds that most people know and certainly one or two of the people that have been doing the earlies know too and what makes it worse is that they are the same people that have been doing the early shift all xmas.

I am fed up with it now and told them today I had said I don't want the OT and that I will not be finished on my time today and I left a bag - roughly 35 minutes worth of work, so not a great deal.

When I told my DOM I would not be able to complete I got the head in hands "oh no" but I stood firm despite trying to make me feel guilty. As I was tying up my DOM said all screw faced and I quote -

"Are you taking the piss today? - All the other walks around you are gone"

I reply "No, I came in today on my time at 6.30am - all those walks came in on OT at 5 or 6am and that walk over there is PT and has been in the same time as me, but obviously hasn't been on IPS till 5 past 8" *The walks are meant to be on IPS if they come in early but the early shift has been getting through the IPS and basically the walks have been getting on their frames and been getting free OT!*

I am dissapointed that my DOM failed to see my point and the sheer fact they seriously questioned my integrity - which has actually upset me a tad, as the DOM was someone who I have known for a long time before being a DOM and thought they knew me better than to judge me in that way.

Don't worry just work what hours you want do no O/T there is nout the silly DIM can do our office looks like cut off city staff have just put up with all they can,in the bad weather we have had the last couple of days people just not going to keep staying out.

Just work to your time and forget about them. They are wrong to compare you to other workers its is the cardinal sin of management to do so. If they do it again point this out and say if they don't improve they will have to under go further management training.... after all if we can't complete our rounds we all need more training apparently so why can it not apply to managers who don't know how to manage

Don't allow yourself to be bullied!! As long as you are doing your job properly(and taking your meal relief)there is nothing they can do about it. If I were you I would quote the interim agreement at them (which they have signed up to) which states

Where is your DOM's goodwill (being nice to you) or his trust (accusing you of being slow and cutting off when you are experienced enough to know how to do your job and how long is should take) ?? I threw this at my DOM at a recent grievance meeting and it shook them up so much I got an apology from a manager and a handshake and apology from my DOM.

Stick to your guns, do not be intimidated by these people!!
