Rest day help needed please

okay I have my long weekend starting on 26th dec and have been told I cannot claim on this as we have not been asked to make up the hours.
Monday is not a problem but the saturday is.
We have all got the day off thus meaning I have would have worked an extra day for nothing, another thing I would like to know is the hours saved what happens to these.

its tough s**t im afraid. anyone whose day off falls on 26th december dont get a day in lieu or anything. Its a big con but nowt you can do about it. you've been shafted im afraid.

I'm in the same boat and would like to know too. I think I'll try it on with my DOM and get it back as a lieu day as he's pretty thick!

Aye, we have had the discussion before but you do not get a day back in lieu for Saturday the 26th. Only Monday 28th if you are on a long weekend.

Yes, the Saturday is classed as a 'non-service day' so everyone gets the day off without any entitlement to lieu time. The Bank Holiday then shifts to the Monday which does draw entitlement to a lieu day.

Be thankful that you have 4 days away from the office ... eat, drink and be merry ...

As someone else said somewhere else - think of its as an extra day given to all those due to work Saturday, rather than those who were going to have to the day off anyway being penalised. TBH if you have Saturday off as normal or its a regular occurrence then you get the bonus of every so often having a long weekend (2 days off in a row) those with fixed days off don't get long weekends so, and I am sorry if this upsets people, I honestly think it balances itself out over the course of every 6 years or so that this is likely to happen.

In isolation that is unfair and I think would and should be cause for a group grievance going in. Ok It is unfortunate that some "reserves" will have their day off selected as Saturday - However if all, in the UK, or even indeed in one office, have this imposed on them then it can be easily shown that this was patently unfair and therefore questionable. No matter that the day off is a gratis one, no more than normal amounts should be selected.

If anyone does want to go down the grievance procedure perhaps a Freedom of Information request would be a good tactic in go on in tandem.

If it is the case that a disproportionate amount of reserves in our office are given Saturday as their day off then I will be approaching our unit rep to organise a group grievance.

There was talk today that anyone whos rest day falls on the 26th will be given a day in lieu. Maybe someone can shed some light on this.

roughly 50 reserves have been allococated friday/saturday as their night off next week in edinburgh mail centre thereby missing out on a lieu day and working a four day week with only one days holiday

please contact one of your reps on nightshift and they will be able to show you all the different permtations involving the shifts for the next 2 weeks. you can also see your area rep who is 6am-1800 thur and fri.

hi steedie, by permutations i presume the night shift reserves will be on a sunday night off week commencing the 28th(as is usually the case)therefore over the christmas period the will have 3 days off with no excess? sorry if i'm missing something.not like royal mail to complicate matters

nightshift reserves THIS DONES NOT EFFECT DUTIES THAT HAVE REST DAYS DURING THE WEEK. REST DAYS ARE AS NORM FOR DUTIES.

next week if sunday night start your p/h will be thur -fri ( rest day fri -sat so RM do not need to give you a free gratis day for sat just like all mon-fri merry xmas from RM)
what would have been moraly right if RM gave you a rest day during the week and then they would have had to give you extra due to the non-service day but they are covering all duties and what reserves they have over and above treat them like xxxxx

SUN-MON P/H ,THUR-FRI PH, FRI-SAT P/H. SO IF YOUR REST DAY FALL ON A P/H YOU GET A DAY CREDIT.
