POLL:Longer and Later Saturday Working

The national talks on Delivery Issues are hitting a number of critical

points - one of those points is the issue of Longer and Later Saturday

Working -



On a scale of one to ten, how big an issue is this for our members in

Delivery?



1 = not a big issue



10= massive issue

5 for me personally and my office,as when we're on a 4 day week we're late anyway.
BUT,if i'm on a 5 day week,i would have voted 10!

I'm for the whole country shorter working saturday all the way.

Of course it's an issue after the last agreement when the working hours got changed, we were told that starting early on a Saturday was that we finished early and seen more of the weekend - now a Saturday is one of the heaviest days of the week..! Usually early/easy night on a Friday so you're fine for the Saturday! time you get up the road your fcuked cause it's mid-afternoon or later, have a rest and your dinner then your feeling fcuked again, not wanting to do alot, then low n behold Sunday's upon you and it's a feelin of.. oh FCUK Monday tomorrow - 1 week down another 1 to go...

With shifting the majority of mail-sort to Friday it has allowed DSA to fill a Saturday now. Up until the changes I was able to get back well before mid-day and help out in the caller's office. Now I am lucky if I get completed before mid-day!

By working later on a Saturday, they would have to take the hourage from the week days and we can't complete as things are, let alone if we have less time to do it in!!

For me it's not an issue personally but can understand others views as I work till 3 every sat just like rest of the week.

wed to fri i don't have any time to pursue my hobbies as it is,to late to tired!!!

Now they want my saturday to,no way!!

How can that be family friendly???

My lads grown up, i used to just about manage to see him play football on Saturday,i feel sorry for any parent who has young kids if this comes in.

It will be all work sleep eat,work sleep eat,SUNDAY,then work sleep eat.

massive issue for me im divorced and get to see my kids on weekends. it wasnt to bad when i got away early now just getting later and later, royal mail dont give a flying f**k about beining family friendly .dirty rotten f**k pigs.

Who's actually asking the question?
If it is from a union official,then we should of been asked this and our priorities sought before industrial action/negotiations.
In a national briefing in mid november,the outdoor secretary appears to concede we must accept later/longer
delivery spans,though probably wouldn't entertain it himself.
It's funny how health and safety is paramount,until money is mentioned.
One of the unions selling points is the SWW,this was sent out as a letter to all members and again reitterated at
the national briefing...
"The protection of full time duties and a shorter working week come before pay."
Whilst it might be favourable to all parties,in terms of preference,not one person in our office has ever implied the
SWW is a top priority.
In terms of saturday,we currently have a last letter time of 12.30,adding 2hours 30mins to this is massive.

Next thing you know, the union will be negotiating a 7 day working week for us.

Spoke to my area rep about this yesterday - he said we have to give a little to receive something back........ Funny coz he hasn't to work a Saturday since 'we' voted him in and he suddenly got FT release to be rep and he presto every Saturday off

Totally understand where you are coming from, buddy.

I have just become Area Delivery Rep for my Branch, but have attended many national briefings over the last 2 to 3 years where all the full-time Reps present are already on Monday to Friday attendances and somehow don't appreciate the importance of the Saturday issue for the rest of the membership.

(Funnily enough, though, my last walking duty was M-F as well...)

IMHO every member must let their Unit and Area Reps know exactly how they feel about the prospect of later and longer Saturdays. Make sure HQ here you as well!

Otherwise, I can see a big 'No Vote' on the horizon.
