Hi all, as some of you know that I am a DOM before you shoot me down please read my posts and you will see what stance I take.

You are right you do have the final say ....after all you are Royal Mail, and to be quite honest ,I agree with you totally .

As far as I can see RM are still hell bent on pushing in change no matter what the consequences are, there is a lull at the moment and that’s because of Christmas period, but I can guarantee you as soon as Christmas is over then the intensity of the changes will pick up....here is a quote from a letter from Higson sent to all DOMS.

"The task is not over yet and we have a long way to go in some places in rebuilding the trust of our people, and in reaching the final agreement that will underpin the transformation of Royal Mail and so secure our future.....and it goes on to say.....
But with the management team we have, I have every confidence that we can succeed.

I know your all tired, and as we approach our buisest season there is little chance to relax

So where ever you are If things are not Fair, not right, not achievable, stand up as you have done so because RM will not stand down.

With regards for Panorama....about time something has come out with a posties views, Tolhurst...... well typical, here we have a stereotypical senior RM Management with his own agenda in mind ,brought in to do a job..... with no Experience of how the postal service works, as does crosier, I don't like his arrogant attitude, I think the bloke came over as a total PIG.

I think he needs to be a postie for a few years before he starts to tell posties of 30 years how to do theirs....but rather listen to them to what they have to say first. But we alL know that that’s not going to happen.

Like myself as per some other DOM'S I have been a postie.... a good one too for a few years, before I became a DOM I had to work my way up.

Sorry Royal Mail I don't agree with none of it.

As i am not a lover of DOMS my thoughts are you are all cloned no skills in man management told what to say and do, and as someone once said in front of the union, management and the regulator. i quote "the trouble with royal mail is, is it is run by FAILED postmen"
But fair play to you for speaking up , if we had more doms like you then maybe just maybe we could make royal mail work again.

The fact is i have knew good managers but is before this clown :lfo became chairman of royalmail it all seamed too start with HIM :lfo when the service became business oriented and disillusioned a workforce that was committed too serve the nation and not the need for greed!.

Out of curiosity mmax any idea of the level of awareness amongst management about the implications for management staffing levels as a result of the office merger and team leader projects

I'd love to see it work..... It used to be a great job..... and there are a lot of great posties out there...(who are the Royal Mail).... that should not take the can because RM's bad Handling of the Business, and the Governments failing to put back what it has taken out.

Both are to blame....again why should the posties pay for their Incompetence.

mabe we would not be in this mess in the first place.

Some fair comments and criticisms of Royal Mail and fair credit to you for coming on here knowing that you will most likely get some stick.

I agree with you that RM will push ahead with the full modernisation programme in the new year. How this will effect us I am not sure. Personally most days I work near to my full time with absorption not possible beyond wed’s. If RM bring back the B/H stance to force new changes I can see further strikes.

I ve been quite lucky and despite the odd one or two I have always got on with my DOM,s, they have a job to do and so do i, but if they will all still be there this time next year I really doubt as RM are going to cut back hard in 2010.

That’s good the fact you had good doms TBH not all doms are bad but there are a lot who are and the Business needs to do something about that,
I have seen it first hand...and it's bloody discussing and makes me fume.

But your right who knows...regarding doms....if their jobs are safe next year... me included... but will RM they change their view on what they want regards to Management??

There are people who toe the line because they have no option but that doesn't mean they agree with that line and mmax is obviously one of them and credit to him.

We are between a rock and a hard place because Royal Mail have an intractable approach and the union do not know how to deal with it.

I saw the new delivery model from a folder of the new way forward - there is no question of them stepping back, they are already in local planning with this delivery model and are as certain as can be that it is a done deal.

Prob the same as the want with us, total flexabilty. I am guessing this will include changes to grades and i can see the need for manual work on covering deliveries which fail absorbtion. Which sort of defeats the purpose of being a manger really

Buddy i think were all in for some un welcome changes next year and how bad it has to get before we all jump ship is anyone's guess.

Hi Belial, the mergers have already started and the DOM at one office resigned after finding alternative employment after his and another office merged.
Team leaders well I think that they have gone through that one....at one time that had thoughts to bring them in but it never came into Fruition

I think it was a time when Elmar Tomie was involved in the business for a brief spell.. He is now NZ posts Ex CEO,
Team Leaders are a model that NZ post use.

A Gentlemen of integrity i commend you sir, Royal mail need an army of you if, if we the Royal mail are to fight off privatly owned foriegn companies lead by Government masters of spin such as Peter Mandelson. Come'th 2010 and come'th our biggest onsault yet. Modernisation is a dirty word and one that will raped, misused and mutated in 2010.

Gentlemen, prepare for battle because when Privatisation comes lower and middle management positions on these quiksilver short-term objectives will be the first to go.

Elmar Tomie got a £500,000 " golden goodbye " for personalty clashes with Leighton , I didn't know that was possible but you do get enlightened . To be fair the civil service types also got paid off for the likes of buying foreign parcel companies for a million and selling them for a tenner and ....... Consignia .

I'd imagine RM would thought the pay offs were good value rather than a lot of dirty linen aired in public - it's common corporate practice whether you agree with it or not / think it's fair .

If I remember rightly RM were still pushing for working team leaders in 2007 and they had been pushing for them for a couple of years before . That might have been more for MC's & DC's - it was apparently - " the only way forward " . Certain managers didn't realise the irony of digging their own graves

The CWU were against it as RM's model was seen as divisive and destructive & sidelined the union . I have seen Parcelfarce use it .....not very well

Team leaders are exactly what you will get with the Dutch model. One FT office based postie prepping 5 walks ready for conveyance to PT delivery posties bag drop points.One team leader covering say 5 of these cluster preppers with his own prep to do as well. Probably call them enhancement and enabling assistants this time round
