Temporary to Permanent Contract

Hi

I'm on a temporary contract up until January then my 2 years on a temp contract are up in April.
What are my chances of getting a permanent contract?
No-one seems able to give me an answer which I can understand but I wondered if anyone on here is facing the same experience as I am or may have just be given a permanent contract after 2 years on a temporary contract or something different.

Im in a similar situation, i've been a temp for just over 3 and half years

on minimum wage, no rise in the time i've been there, so to be honest, i wouldn't hold your breath!

I think someone posted a bit from a Government advice site recently,
which said that the employer only has to give you a permanent contract after 4 years.

thats correct although page 46/47 of the MTFS agreement states that royal mail will give you a perm contract after two years unless there's exceptional circumstances. we've got 3 guys at my place that argued this after three years and they were given perm contracts. they all had 40hrs rolling fixed contracts, their own 40hr walks but the perm contracts they were given are only 30hrs. witch makes me laugh really because each day they are physically in the building they get 2hrs "free" overtime and are actually about £20 better off because the extra 10hrs per week are paid at overtime rate. only downside is if they take any holiday or sick leave they loose those 2hrs per day off.

Are you sure about the overtime as standard RM contract the overtime rate of pay does not start until the 40hour threshold and then strangely once the 50hour one is passed the rate drops again, but not to the standard pay rate.

not 100% sure, i'll have a word in the morning.
thinking about it i've heard one of them having a moan that they didn't receive the sa pay rate because they hadn't hit 40hrs yet.
that said im pretty sure one of them was having a giggle about getting more because of the change in contract.

I expect to eventually get offered a permanent part-time contract at some point. Don't see much chance of the current 40 hours I have - even if we eventually get a decent new national agreement.

on a basic week they are £18 better off then when they had a 40hr contract.downside is they loose when off. i've asked to have a butches at their pay slips, not sure if they're gonna let me tho lol. when the sign for the hours its marked up as vacant.

Guess I'll just keep my head down and see how they handle it when my contract expires. All along both union rep and managers were stating the total 'ftc' period was 2 years. Will be interesting to see what they decide.
