Delivered a packet to the wrong street yesterday, rammed the thing through a letterbox it barely fitted. The old dear brought it to me this morning telling me it wasnt hers, ha ha I said, its not mine either.

After a brief chat I told her I'd be doing that street next anyway so I'd take it, the bloke was none too pleased as I had to knock him out of bed and explain the UPS f*** up.

UPS are total shite, they have lost so much of my stuff
keep asking them why can't i use RM, "that's the ones we use"
well ok then i will go buy it elsewhere as they are s**t

Why did you chose to do UPS work and mop up there mess i wouldnt have touched it just like i dont touch the scout post when they mis-deliver.

We have enough competiton knocking on our door not to correct there mistakes do you think the UPS person would have done the same for us NO so why should we do it for them please think next time .

I didnt do it for UPS, I did it for the old dear who was fretting.

I would say that I would disagree with you on this one. If we truly believe we should be providing a service rather than worrying about profit, this is one small thing that can help prove it, and the added benefit is that we probably have one more customer on our side.

Ok if we want to be a business then perhaps I would have accepted it and passed it to "Revenue Protection" or refused to handle it.

I think for an individual like that it would be the right thing to do.
But when I was on firms' collections I would often be asked to take items that had been
missdelivered by courier companies, and would decline, explaining that RM had not been
paid to deliver or redeliver, and that they would have to give them to the courier who had
delivered them.

Bang on.....help out Granny Smith, but tell the business to get on to the courier, ( and make sure they tell the courier "If that is the accuracy of your service, I WON'T be using you!"

TBT this is somethink we wont see eye to eye on each to there own.

Regardless of whether the old dear was freeting ( and i have the up most respect for our elderly generation) i wouldnt have touched it.

Just one other thing to consider say the intended receipient says the packet hasnt turned up and the ups couries knows the address he delivered it to ,they get in touch with the old dear and ask were the parcel is. Who was the last person to handle this packet the postamn then suspicion will fall on him your leaving yourself wide open. In this day and age some people will do anythink if they think they can gain somethink out of it .

You shouldnt have touched it.

Not because of the competitor feud or anything. Simply because its not your job.

Why not pick up some litter on your way round next time, just to help out.

Mc i didnt mean if he knew the proper address he delivered to but the actuall address he delivered it to does that make sense not sure whether im confusing myself now.

Just be careful next time as you could be leaving yourself wide open to allegations of dishonesty when in fact you have done a good deed.

I can see both sides of this
An example was a couple of years ago my sister, s postman delivered a packet containing books which had been miss-delivered by a competitor and left out on the step in the pouring rain. The books were ruined and she had to return them for replacements, fair enough. However when the strikes came up she brought this up moaning to my mother "remember when my bloody postman ruined my books". I had to remind my mother that it was not him and he was only trying to help.
You see the point people just remember the postie brought it to them.
