Pretty sure he'll get a large slice of the record breaking £184 million profit made so far this year, not bad for a company in "decline".

I've just figured this out. The process by which TNT and the other private mail companies are given access to the Royal Mail network is called "deregulation" but is actually achieved only by regulating the Royal Mail. Otherwise all we would have to do to stop them leeching our customers would be to put the prices up. I've just checked the Postcomm website. The chief executive, Tim Brown, used to work for DHL, while the chairman, Nigel Stapleton, has interests in the Kazak postal services provider, KazPost. Independent regulator......... not! It just shows that the government are behind the deliberate undermining of the Royal Mail for ideological purposes. A lot of people stand to make a lot of money and it us posties who are being squeezed for that to happen.

I'm still struggling to see what the problem is here and how the strikes have crippled the business.

Latest financial figures, published yesterday by the Royal Mail, show mail volumes dropped eight per cent between April and September, compared to the same six months last year.

Overall, yesterday's figures show Royal Mail made an operating profit of £184million during the six months to the end of September, up four per cent on last year.

If the volumes are down 8% and the profit is up 4%, (both in the middle of a recession and through a period of IA), we must be one of the most successful companies in the world!

He was chairman of TNT Express Worldwide as well as a director of Stena Line and of SAS.

PostComm Chairman Nigel Stapleton is a non executive director of the Reliance Group which provides outsourced security services to Royal Mail. He is also an independent director of KazPost, the Kazakh postal service and Samruk Energy, a Kazakh electricity generating company.
Chief Executive Tim Brown, the former Marketing Director of DHL, joined Royal Mail from KPMG where his work included a review of the future of Royal Mail for the government. His son holds a senior position in TNT Express.

Commissioner Professor Stephen Littlechild is described as an “international consultant on regulation, competition and privatisation” and an adviser to governments and the World Bank.

Commissioner Simon Prior-Palmer was an investment banker with Credit Suisse.

Commissioner Tony Cooper is the father of Yvette Cooper, Chief Secretary to the Treasury and consequently father-in- law of Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, who is also Gordon Brown’s closest ally.

Commissioner Wanda Goldwag is adviser to private equity firm Smedvig Capital.

Modernisation to compete is a red herring in my opinion.If Royal Mail was modernised to an extent to where it was threatening the newcomers Postcomm would then be obliged to handicap Royal Mail again,the whole idea being to kill off Royal Mail's monopoly.It strikes me that the purpose of the recent "modernisation"'job cuts and other costcutting measures, was for the purpose of a sell-off.

A child could have written a better balanced article than this. It displays a complete lack of understanding of how the industry works and a total lack of objectivity.

As for TNT wanting to put their own postman on the streets, well this will only apply to High Streets, business parks and densely populated areas. They’re not interested in delivering Christmas cards or the suchlike, they want ‘clean mail’. They’re not interested in getting a letter from John O’Groats to Land’s End the next day. All they want is the easy, profitable stuff.

Cherry picking, in other words and, no doubt, the next government will bend over backwards to accommodate them but does this article bother to mention this? Of course not, because it doesn’t fit their agenda.

i would like to see TNT deliver to every house and business in this country, it would coast them more than it is worth.
They don't know what there talking about.. How much do you think it would coast them to set it up? Billions..
