postie sacked for using private car on delivery
A postman in the Southampton area has been sacked for using his private car on delivery. There is a ban on private cars on delivery in this particular office and after many WTLL sessions advising of the Joint Royal mail/CWU policy on cars this individual still used his car.

They're banned in my area as well, but no-one has been sacked (yet).

banned in mine too and 2 years ago a bloke got sacked at my office and a few others have had warnings on their record.
Funny how RM let people use their cars in some areas where its easier for them and in others its a sackable offence

It's very strange.
How can you be sacked for something that is not national policy.
If this guy's car was road legal and he had the correct insurance it's a very weak case for a sacking.
But not much sympathy here.I hate PCOD anyway.

I reckon when they introduce park and loop in our office there will still be cnuts using their PCOD.
For some it just seems to be a way of life.

Re: postie sacked for using private car on delivery
I don't advocate use of cars but surely when it's not a National Agreement they can't sack someone for it?
Life's only rosey if you make it that way...... There is life outside of Royal Mail you know!

We all had to sign a letter saying we realised that using our cars was a sackable offence.
Best thing that ever happened in our office.

I understand why it was the best thing ever.
Would not have touched that letter with a barge pole though.
RM have enough reasons to sack people without adding to the list.

I understand what you mean but I think they would have had a hard job carrying it out.For our office there is now no "grey area".It is spelt out loud and clear and has probably saved us from bigger cuts than we have had.fishtank wrote:antcpfc wrote:

Re: postie sacked for using private car on delivery
lets get a national agreement on private cars then
thats what were doing now strikes been cancelled
if their sacking for using their own car all the individual has to do is pursue victimisation case against rm
as they allow use of private cars with other people doble standards
sort it out
same rules for everyone

Cackhill to which joint policy are you making reference to? I know of the RM Private Cars on Delivery Procedure but this is not a joint document.
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

Re: postie sacked for using private car on delivery
The sooner ALL cars on delivery are banned the better it will be for all. I understand that when the national agreement does get published park and loop will be agreed and with its introduction private cars will be banned.
