Our office in the last 3 years has seen 9 full time staff leave,either through sackings or other jobs.
Our office only employs 62 people.
Not one part timer has been made full time during this period.
Our manager says royal mail are not making anyone full time throughout the country,his hands are tied.
I feel he is talking bull s**t.
More work for the full timers on ips and 24 hour contact staff are replacing the 40 hour ones that have left.
Is this right?

Royal Mail continue to claim they still want to be primarily a full time employer.
In my experience this is bull. You've lost 9 in a 62 man office - we've lost 13 full time replaced by LTFT in 3 years in a 42 man office.

just this week we have got a couple of fulltime duties put up on the board (vacant for nearly a year now)
get the rep to lodge a disagreement over this, thus moving it up the chain for area reps and sector managers to sort out
simple they are not following national agreements for filling vacancies

We have lost 4 full timers this year and 3 part timers were made up to replace them. However as no one else has been employed to replace the part timers it means these hours have just been absorbed into the whole office so to say.
Life's only rosey if you make it that way...... There is life outside of Royal Mail you know!

No-one has been made FT in our office for over 5 years. As far as I can see we will never have anymore new FT staff.
We have 7 FT staff over 60 still working in our office of 50 odd, now we all know what's going to happen when they retire in the next few years - either bring in PTers to replace them or NOT replace them at all.

Im sure the office ratio should be 60/40 ours is 80/20 but were having the same problem.
R/Ms future is for all F/T to be indoor workers and the P/T on delivery.
A proposal was put forward in our office that if any P/T wanted to be made up to F/T R/M would grant this as long as the people being made up had a chnange of hours to there contract which was 09-00-17-00 once i heard this i told them to forget it. I just felt sorry for the P/T as they all wanted to be made F/T but not with those silly start ,finish times

My D.O does not have PT who wish to be FT and we do not currently have FT who wish to be PT.
3 PT in my D.O including myself used to be FT.
Some of our current FT used to be PT.

We have one FT vacancy due to a stage 3 sick leave dismissal. This is being held open as the sacked member is going to tribunal (a bit of work for Mr W? as she does not have HQ backing due to the legal bods claiming she has less than 50% chance 
The DOM says if she wins the tribunal she will get her job back, if that happens myself or the sub rep if he takes over along with the Area Delivery Rep/Sub Area Delivery Rep will be pressing the DOM/Royal Mail to reinstate her.
If she looses then we will expect PT staff to have the oppurtunity to go FT thus creating a PT vacancy. We do have plenty of housing growth on the go which could create new FT jobs thus giving opurtunties to go FT, but i doubt very much any of the PT will want to go FT. For starters one of them had a buy down last year and is doing his last few years as a 30 hour PT before retiring at 65. Another FT dropped his hours as a 40 hour week was too much after returning to work after major illness, unfortunatley he just can not get that level of strength and stamina needed to do 40 week. He is perfectley happy with his current set up and he asked to go PT.
As for me I did buy down in September 2007 because that suited me at the time, with buy down you can go back to FT after 2 years without having to pay back a single penny if you go back FT before then you have to pay back a portion of the money. Im waiting to see what FT jobs look like post current talks and post automation before deciding if I will go back FT as and when a vacany exists. At the tender age of 34 right now, ive got 31 years left with RML so plenty of time to consider my options
Im also the 2nd most senior PT with the number 1 spot being held by my comrade who did buy down last year to end his last few years with RM. A good choice if you ask me he got almost 9 grand he has his pension and can take it easier for a few years before retiring.
