does anybody know what the agreement consists of for the 2nd jan in scotland..?

I could be very wrong here, but what I think he is getting at, as postcom have decided that 2nd jan is a non service day, no mail getting delivered rest of country, scotland is loosing out as they have agreement to work good friday in return for getting 2nd jan as public holiday, so basically scotland will loose out and get it off as usual but still have to work good friday, so technically they are getting the correct amount of days but compared to the rest of the uk, a day less,

i think most posties in scotland would prefer present arrangement. just because jan 2nd happens to be on a saturday this year, means little. just the "crumbling cookie"

Bank Holidays on Saturdays
2.23 Royal Mail has requested an exception to the universal service when some named
bank holidays fall on a Saturday and the Secretary of State has substituted a
weekday (usually the following Monday) for the official bank holiday. This applies to
New Year’s Day, 2 January (Scotland), Battle of the Boyne (Northern Ireland) and
Boxing Day. Unless an exemption is granted Royal Mail must perform a full USO
collection and delivery on these Saturdays. Other than for Boxing Day 2009, which
is discussed below, Royal Mail has asked Postcomm to make an exemption so that it
can take the Saturday as the holiday and provide a USO collection and delivery on
the Monday instead.

I think we will be working the Saturday and the following Monday in the rest of the UK and Scotland, the parts that observe the 2nd January Bank Holiday will have Saturday off and Work the official Bank Holiday of Monday. I am also guessing that those due for Saturday as a day off will have a day in lieu.

if i remember correctly then scotland gave up one of the may holidays so they could get the 2nd of january, happened at least ten years ago

wrong !! you are refering to the one off deal where we lost our 2nd bank holiday on may it was something to do with the queen either birthday/anniversary because we still have 2 bank holidays in may. let me clear up this Christmas/New year differences between Scotland and the rest of the uk, we have always been off on the 2nd of january because ne'reday is part of the scottish festive traditions unlike christmas where the rest of the uk have a day more off than us ... keep in mind the celebration of christmas is a fairly recent event in Scotland .... Christmas was not celebrated in scotland till the turn of the 20th century 1910 -20 era when the church of scotland started to lose authority in scotland ..... and christmas day was not a public holiday until the 1950s .... whats more boxing day is not a offical scottish holiday

the church of scotland was against christmas on religous grounds "Christ" "Mas"s
