Ive got 20 years service and am in the age bracket 50-55. How does this affect any pension figures when i reach 60. Is this the pension figure i will always receive from 60+ and does the lump sum come out of my pension or is this a compensation payment from royal mail.Any ideas!

Re: termination mutual agreement payment
Mate get proper financial advice. You take the cash as it is tax free and pension is taxable. Your pension would go up after 60 as no actuarail deduction would be taken. It is a very complex field so get independant advice even the CAB will help

dont leave, you will be replacede by a p/timer who does no ips and puts more strain on office (not better to stay until you reach 60 and get a decent pension).how ever after only 8 years service and seeing how much the job has changed i dont blame you.

See the PENSION AND REDUNDANCY thread at: http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... nt#p106185" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which contains an explanation of the difference between TMA1a and TMA1b.
Basically TMA1a has a compensation lump sum based on VR terms, but the pension is actuarially reduced if you
take it, though you can defer it until you reach 60 in which case, I think, you would recieve the full amount at 60.
TMA1b is where you recieve immediate payment of non-reduced and non-enhanced pension (and lump sum if
applicable) - but no additional compensation is paid.
The RM Pensions Service Centre should be able to advise you about TMA, their tel no is 0114 241 4545,
or you can email them on: pensions.helpline@royalmail.com
If you take the pension now, whether full or reduced, it will remain the same when you reach 60 - though it will
be raised annually, roughly in line with inflation.
You need to bear in mind that if you take a pension now it might disqualify you from receiving JobSeekers Allowance
if you are unemployed. An ex-colleague of mine took EVR 4 years ago. He got a pension of £100 pw, and got
a part-time job as a Security Guard. He has now been made redundant from that and has been told he will not get
JSA because he has a pension.
You should get advice about that before making any decision. The Department for Work and Pensions has a helpline -
0800 055 6688 (Mon-Fri 8-6) which should be able to help.
