I come across this to many times on my round that mail has not been properly franked or not at all (especially packets). It is true that if RM are investing in new technology how come they can't get the simplest of tasks done right. This costs the business money and the customer is reaping the benefits because of this.
the RM response is that is too expensive to put them through a franking machine again and /or it would cause failure/ delay . Make of that what you want .

yeah at least 90% of my packets are not franked and 30% letters, do any of you bother marking them with your pen?

Two years ago they took many packet cancelling duties out in Mail Centres on the basis that Post office staff were told to postmatk the stamps themselves BUT they often don't cancel them and also small packets that are posted into a postbox not over the counter will go uncancelled As for letters stamped ones are now such a small proportion of the mail that making sure the stamps are postmarked is no longer seen as so important.
I'd say I'm cancelling at least 40/50 items each day Out on my duty. Again as everything else to do on delivery Was trained it's part of the job to do so if it again causes me to go over time that's RM's prob.

I'm sure tman,nighttonic will tell you it's because of the lack of staff in mail centres and they just throw these items in a bag and send them on to try to clear the offices at the end of the shift for despatch. Was at my mail centre recently and thats what they did and apperntly it was common practice nearly every night .....yes 'modernisation' is working fine ... isn't it

No, during training and since then I have NEVER been told to pen cancel unpostmarked stamps.

Whenever its looking like a possible failure,the first thing the shiftmanager lets slip is the canceling of stamps on packets/flats,been commen practice foe months at our MC.When it comes to a point of wether the office clears and managers bounses are intact,or fails and they lose said bonus,it really is no contest-if the job is done as it should be doesnt come into it!!!

Hardly any of our flats have the stamps cancelled. Letters are not so bad. Don't really know about packets as I hardly see any stamped packets, post office horizon labels don't need canceling as far as I am aware.

the other thing with Ebayers is that with buying shop vouchers or unfranked stamps ( they usuallyhave no glue / adhesive on - a way to get round things ? & they put a disclaimer re use on , which of course nobody is going to take any notice of ) is they can " launder " their money , i.e . it's a legitimate business expense and it's less likely to show up for the revenue or even the Social / Council if they're topping up benefits ? .
did a small test recently with out going lookin for un frankrd mail and just what came to hand on my english road ,within the hour i counted £250. of unfranked mail so times that by each road then by each mail centre then you have a lot of money..management dont care rev pro has been on at them for years about this also the DA mail out of access is a big one one as well
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.
