Paid days in leu

I was asked by my dim to come into work on my annual leave days this work to help because they are short staffed.. I said yes to help out... when i got into work i asked him what I should put on the overtime sheet annual leave or sick leave, he told me none of them and that I would get the time paid back in leu....To say I’m pissed off is an understatement can they do this?

Hope you got it in writing.

Also it helps point out that before you agree to work your time off then you need to get a full brief off the manager in how it is going to be handled/paid and if you don't like the arrangements then don't do it.

The real question is why would you want to come in on your holidays.
And also he is not allowed to pay you overtime for coming in on your holidays,so in effect what he is doing is cancelling the days you do and giving them back to you another time.

There are lads in our office who do this( they must be mad ) and they get paid 7 hours overtime per day and don't have to go on the ips or wait for the missorts.

Assuming that you have signed in on the days you have worked - you have effectively canceled your annual leave by mutual agreement with your manager so you are entitled to your annual leave days to be reinstated to your leave card.
If your manager disagrees with this take out a grievance.

Resourcing and managing is what he is paid to do. I would NEVER give up my annual leave, no matter what the circumstances. To give up a week that you specifically selected, on the promise of getting some other dates that may not be to your liking is bonkers

Your DIM might well be a nice person, but that's not the issue. It's not your responsibility to solve resourcing issues, and 'helping out' without first getting it in black-and-white exactly how you're going to be compensated is taking employee loyalty way too far in my opinion

A few (10 or so) years ago there were blokes in my office who gave up their holidays as they couldn't afford to only get paid 90-odd quid a week whilst they were off. They were doing FT walks and had been for years, but were only on 18hr contracts (RM contract argument is nothing new!)

We have an agreement in our office whoever wants to work their day off gets paid 9 hours overtime and gets to throw off at their frame. Not having to sort any mail.

Standing rule in my office is if you are on leave, you are on leave - if they need you to work, your leave is cancelled and returned to your entitlement.....if you want to earn docket, on your week off, go and work elsewhere for a week....not that I have a lot of contacts, so I'd join an agency - and probably end up driving a 600 up to my unit!
