Roy Mayall - New Book
'Roy Mayall' was just on BBC Radio 4 morning programme.
He has had a book published - 'Dear Granny Smith: A Letter from your Postman'.
The publisher is Short Books, and it's £4.99.
You can get it on Amazon for £4, with free delivery.
I think it might just be the blog already published in the LRB, but I've ordered a copy.

Usual responses in the comments after. I thought it was The Times not the Daily Mail. We should all add our comments about the reality of the job.whitemoor66 wrote:Wessex, I've just gobbed my tea over my PC. Thanks for making me smile.![]()

I must confess that I thought the Roy Mayall diary was a collaborative effort.Perhaps we could get him to be a sort of writer-in residence for the Union ,what do you think ?

FFS. if i have to read one more comment from some pompous idiot saying " my postie is always late" or " it's always after lunchtime" , i'm going to scream. Does it never enter these peoples head that there's a reason for this. I wish i had a pound for the times i've told customers " we can't leave the office till 9.40" , i'd be a rich man.

Re: Roy Mayall - New Book
It’s a nice piece of writing probably a little over sentimental
and no doubt about to be ripped apart by the ever caring

Re: Roy Mayall - New Book
Hi it's Roy Mayall here. No, it wasn't a collaborative effort and although the new book contains the bones of that LRB piece, it's got a lot of new stuff in it too. I guess it might be a bit sentimental in places, though the main story is one that was told to me by one of my colleagues at work. It's all based on reality, at least as far as I see it. The main point for me is that other posties like it. If people want to send me their comments I have a blog on http://roymayall.wordpress.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I'd be interested in hearing what people have to say.

Nice piece of work Roy - the way things are going, your book is likely to be the pocket history of the Postman.Roy Mayall wrote:Hi it's Roy Mayall here. Re: Roy Mayall - New Book
Hi, Roy!
Not to turn this thread into a "Roy is Wonderful" thread, but thank you so much for writting the article. I printed it out for everyone I knew who had any questions about the situation, posted it on the notice-board at work, and told most of the punters on my round where to find it.
If only the union could explain themselves as well as you have, we would have much more support.
Welcome to the forum, although I suspect you have been here under a different pseudonym for a while...

(By the way, you haven't also worked as a call-girl in London, have you? Just checking...)

Roy IS wonderful! As one of the previous posters said you have got our message out in a way the union has sadly failed to match.
