No "days" off allowed!

We got our holiday forms back today, everyone has been given the weeks they chose. I then asked when the odd days here and there that i and others have picked would be sorted out/allocated to us only to be told "your not allowed days off only full weeks" So i said "so no ones allowed a long w/e off then"?... "NO"
Whats it like in other offices? Anyone else have probs with days off? ..i really cant see the problem of having a day off if its available and surely its better if your not off all week as then the dom hasn't got to get your round covered etc

we are not allowed sat off in our office our Dom says he cant get it covered unless we can get someone to come in of their holidays! i gave him 9 months notice to get off for my bro s wedding and i still could ny get it

The whole point about odd days off are so you can take them when you like as long the duties are covered.You're not supposed to get them allocated to you like summer leave.
I work nights,so Friday night is popular for a single day off.They try and allocate no more than 3 people to have the night off.

If your leave spread for the week is not full then you should be allowed to have days off.

If you get in early enough and the spread is not full then managers CAN'T stop you having it off.

The only problem is,is when you for instance want this fri off and although the spread is not full you have a lot of sickness,but i'm sure that they still have to give it to you,and i'm sure we have argued this at my place and won.

We don't have a 'comp day' list anymore. The odd days are supposed to be taken during unsigned for weeks, but the reality is there aren't any spare! In reality, I've found that if you need a specific day, as long as you give enough notice and the DOM can cover your job, you seem to be ok.

No problems in our office - we put in holiday requests and odd day requests in advance - if odd days are not used up by a certain time, people are reminded of what they have outstanding and then if they don't use them up they are allocated leave - this happens pretty late in the leave cycle, usually when next years are due for planning. If someone has an emergency and has leave credits still live they usually get it with their duty swapped or lapsed to cover the absence - our managers are pretty helpful with leave requests and consequently get help with cover when they need it.

'So, as I'm entitled to 23.5 days leave, once I've booked my four weeks, you're going to give me another 1.5 days extra, then ?

When he says 'No', ask him

'Well how the f**k am I going to be able to use my odd three-and-a-half days then, if I can only take WHOLE weeks, you numbnut' ???

Yikes! Our holiday forms only went out to us to fill in yesterday/today, due in by Dec 20th, We'll be lucky to know what we have by April (again)

They want ours booked in complete weeks as well, reckon it is with union agreement too. Not seen a rep yet to query them on this though.

I know it is not what was asked but for those that did not know - under RM rules for holidays you are allowed to carry 1 full week of holiday entitlement over into the next year. In most cases you "may" be permitted to bring a full week forward from the next year into the current year. As far as I know the bringing forward of a week may be at your managers discretion ?

If a Union Rep could confirm this or not - I would appreciate the input.

Half a week extra I think, so 5 up to a maximum of six for long-timers.

On entry = Four and a half weeks.
After 5 years = Four weeks and 3.5 days.
After 15 years = Five weeks and 1 day.
After 20 years = Six weeks.
