Saturday Special Delivery

If you have a Special Delivery on a Saturday and you are out on delivery after 2pm when the delivery office shuts, and the nearest Post Office has shut at 12.30, what do you do with any Special Deliveries you have been unable to get rid of?

In that case I would pouch it off after the 739 before 12.30 and if this eventually took you over your time and you didnt want the OT. Cut off.

Depending on what time you start, get rid of it first by delivery or pouching. Not a good idea to hope you get rid of it later on in the day. Still I think a Manager should really wait until the last postman is back, or that's how it should work.

I'd say leave it in a pouch box and phone the DO to at least leave a message saying what you've done and at what time. Then tell your lino first thing on Monday morning to get a driver out to recover it. At our place we've been told on occasion to just take them home and bring them back on Monday...yep you read that right IB!!

We have a pouch box at our place tucked away in the yard where the lads who are out late can pouch off anything they dont get rid of and the box is then cleared the next morning.Whatever happens do NOT take it home over the weekend.

Don't take the SD home or leave in a pouch box, it should be kept with you at all times.

On Saturdays i don't take any specials out with me as i don't come back. I would give them to the driver, but make sure that
the PHG transferrs all SD's to the driver as otherwise you will remain responsible for them (if they are lost you will be b**l*x*d)

If you will be able to attempt delivery before your D.O shuts take it and phone in if you can't get rid of it.
If not explain to your DOM and get someone else to take it.
Anything else will get you into a whole heap of trouble if it goes missing especially taking it home.

if you dont think you can do a special delivery and get it back to the office within time then you are supposed to tell a manager who is supposed to either give it to a driver or do it themselves.

I do specials in the van when getting a lift out if either I expect them not to be in or can't carry for full duty or won't reach in time.

This is what happened to the boy covering my walk on Saturday. He left it in a drop box.
It happened to me when I was a newstart.I took it home and got a bollocking on Monday morning.When I asked for the correct procedure I was told I should have taken it to a police station.
It obviously must happen regularly yet there does not appear to be a correct procedure.
With longer Saturdays looming shouldn't someone give this some consideration.

Mixing 2 threads here but have we stumbled on why RM wont install clocking in and out. Because if they did then surely RM would have a "Duty of Care" and there would have to be Management presence in the DO whilst any posties are out delivering. In essence it would stop them sloping off early on Saturdays when they "thought everyone had finished" as they would need to contact anyone not clocked out on completion of delivery before they left.

I am surprised there are no H&S implications in this.Surely if someone has an AOD there must be a manager available to deal with this?
