Special Leave with pay? does it still exsist??
Hi,
Am so flippin annoyed......
My 80 yr old mother fell yesterday and broke her arm... my brother rang me but not wanting to leave the job in a mess I carried on and finished my collection.
my mother was let home last night and I was reassured she was ok.
I knew my Mother wouldn't be able to cope at home so 1st thing this morning I visited her Dr...... unknown to myself my mother had slep on the settee last night and then this morning couldn't get up and basically urinated all over herself, the settee and the floor... we ended up with an emergency Social Services visit..... my mother hasn't been coping for a while and while we have offered to help clean the house she has refused to let us.......... the house was worse than I had imagined..... and probably worse than you can imagine.....haven't ventured upstairs yet!!! not sure how I shall do that one.. :(
I have had to take the day off to sort my mother a place in a care home, to go buy her new clothes and to make a start on cleaning the house.......
I don't know if you can imagine how stressed I have been today and still am....
My manager rang me to ask me how I was taking the time off........ ie working it back, without pay or a holiday..ffs is this not an emergency!!!!!!
well I am now to stressed to go to work tomorrow and I have made an appointment at my Dr's due to the stress.....
Is there such a thing as special leave with pay anymore?
How bad do things have to get.......

Sadly it depends on whether you have a decent manager or a complete arsehole for one, there doesn't seem to be many of the old school managers about that would just say "don't worry family comes first I'll sort it out for you" anymore.
Hope you're mum health improves quickly mate.

It does still exist, but as westlondonpostie has already said, it does depend on the manager involved. I've had two occasions when I've had paid special leave, but on another occasion my wages were docked the same week!! The twat must have unglued himself from holding up the IPS frame, rushed into the office and gleefully deducted the exact amount of hours lost.

If no look with your manager phone human resources and explain your situation, I'm sure they have department to deal with family crises,
and would just like to wish you good luck and hope your mum gets well soon..

I actually forgot to say in my first post that I a single parent and carer to my child, she has a life threatening illness and takes lots of looking after but I rarley take time off for her... 2 hospital appointments a year.... they'll be wanting me to take these as hols next..... well I do believe there is a law in place so they have to give me up to 10 days in a year for her........................but puttting that aside today was an emergency..... social services were round in 15 mins of the phone call.........and my shift was all of 3hrs 30 mins.... Royal Mail must be skint!!!!
well Mum has settled well in the care home I picked for her..... she seems to like it and myself and the rest of the family are positive that we can at last get things all sorted asap........
thanks for all your kind words and advise.

take a month off with stress, that will teach them to be more considerate, the only people to blame for the sick being so high within the company are managers.

I have a friend who is in media.... I am tempted to take this to the press... but not sure how this would affect me in the long run.... It really would make a good story.. but also have to consider my mother and her feelings in all of this!!!
