Regarding Long Weekends

I've been working as a postman for Almost 3 years now. I've moved from south Wales to Hertfordshire some 169 miles away because of meeting my (then ) Girlfriend. Anyway my Question is despite being a reserve postman, Am i still entitled to a long weekend off every 6 weeks?
Im asking this because I have children back in Wales and if Im lucky managed to have a long weekend every 10 -12 weeks if not longer.
Comments would be much appreciated.

You are entitled to a long weekend every six weeks.
In the 2007 pay and modernisation agreement I think
Open up a grievance against the manager

Hoping there is some answer out there for me as my delivery office doesnt seem to know anything on this topic and seems to think that Im not entitled to this unlike everybody else in my office.

Mate the way it's always worked in my office is reserves just have the day off of the duty they are covering.
Obviously this leads to very few actual Sat/Mon days off unfortunately. However we have had examples of reserves having 4 consecutive Saturdays off just by pure luck of the duties day off being the Saturday.

was a reserve before i waited near on a year once for a long weekend . The manager said thats just the way things are ,its just luck he said ! You should be entitled to a long weekend every 6 weeks same as every1 ,but they dont do that with reserves ,they just get the day off tfor the duty they are covering! Another thing that shouldnt have happened in any agreement.

You have to fight for the saturday off but you are entitled to it. If you have a decent manager you should be ok. My office are managers are pretty resonable but they still talk Rm proganda though.

Just throw in the fact that you feel discriminated against. The mere mention of the word discrimination should have any manager squirming and bending over backwards to ensure you do not feel you have to take it further.

Ive been a reserve gor almost 7 years, very rarely get a long weekend, even when the dutys day off is a saturday most of the time they change it to a Tuesday..........in a word this is ****

Was told today that during the 2007 Pay and Modernisation agreement that each office recieved money and time which was to be used by managers to help facilatate with issues like this.

Was also told today that someone in a similar sitsuation went down the grievance line,
he mentioned discrimination as every other man on a 40hr contract was getting a long weekend every six weeks.

he was told no'one has a set duty and as long as he got a day of it was ok,
he was told they would try to accomadate him were possible
he has been getting a regular long weekend off ever since.

you have to be prepared to make a stand and fight or they will treat you like shite

Exactly the same with me in my office, although the latest reason for this happening is " Operational Needs!!!!!!!!!!!",

Thank you all for your comments and I will take then all on board.
As I've mentioned earlier on in this thread that a grievance is actually in place with my manager and a decision or a reply has to be make within 5 working days from today other wise a stage 2 form which is in the post from HR has to be filled out.
Have mentioned this situation to our Union Rep and he basically put his hand up and said " Nothing I can do, its doesn't work in this office" and walked off.
What are we paying our Union exactly for?!?!?
