hello this is my first post. i've been lurking around for a while and finally got the guts to say hi

anyways today was a bad day usually i am quite happy go lucky ... one of the things that happened was my bag drop got cancelled due to the garage being closed. the result was the driver had to come round and find me then ask me what I wanted to do with it so I didn't have any option other than to put it in the shop which is later on in the walk. when i got to the cancelled bag drop it was open and I was a bit annoyed because I suspected they would open up around nine-ish. then i had to walk well out of the way down a very steep hill to get my next bag, then trudge all the way back up. it seemed a bit daft to me and for the first time I was actually tempted to start using my car which is against all my principles!! sometimes i feel management and drivers want you to use your car just so they can have an easy life. the driver should have been a bit more accommodating maybe checking to see if the garage was open up to the time i needed it, or even a bag meet. drivers can be a real lifeline in situations like that but on saturdays everyone just wants an early finish

i am happy doing any walk as long as there are frequent bag drops/pouch boxes because i don't use my car on delivery. they seem to be getting fewer and more far between and there is also the issue of bags not fitting in the old style pouch boxes! mail volume is low well my bloomin' morale is too

Drivers are just a law unto themselves.When they go from being postmen to being drivers they appear to undergo a complete personality change.(a frontal lobotomy in medical jargon)Getting drop bags to postmen/women takes second place to getting their kids to school and packets they would never have dreamed of taking as a postman are now beneath them.
We can't have any new drop boxes as we are in a "conservation area".(I live in a conservation area and there is a box at the end of the street).We use more and more safe drops and the only thing they have in common is they are not safe.One was in a suite of offices used to counsel problem teenagers.

I don't suppose it'll matter when they bring in Park and Loopy to your offices.

You get the bag drops where YOU want them - not where the driver thinks he will drop them. Also you tell the driver the time you want it if there is no safe drop or pouch box. If you get any problems then report it to the rep or the DOM. It may sound harsh but some drivers seem to think that they are there for joyriding and that bag drops and packets are someone else's responsibility.

some drivers are great and others are rubbish. thing is when park and loop does come in all driving duties will be kiboshed. so maybe they just don't care anymore. like me funnily enough. today i had the classic incident of being on a brand new walk and - wait for it - a brand new driver also on his duty. neither of us knew where the fk we were going

park and loopy ... that's what i call it in our do but it hasn't caught on yet. think most of us are still in deep denial

When I'm on a driving duty the guys have there usual bag drops or they will have timed bags, not a problem with me

like i am going to be sitting in the van while the driver drops off all the bags, time better spent doing MY job like, uh, delivering the mail.

As a driver, I've got to stand up and say we're not all like that. I do my level best to make sure no-one is waiting for bags. It's a matter of pride! Sometimes I end up with someone waiting a few minutes, or even longer if someone sneaks out early (their lookout in which case), or if I'm held up waiting for a reserve on an unfamiliar walk to get their bags ready for me.

Packet wise, I'm quite lenient. We have the famous template around somewhere, and I believe the official line (or maybe a local 'rule') is that drivers are supposed to take shoe box sized or bigger. But I'll take much smaller packets than that, because I've done enough years on foot to know the realities of trying to fit packets in a delivery pouch. But I do get pissed off when I get back to find small packets (ie ones which will easily fit in the pouch) buried under the bags on my York. Although in fairness, I have to say the walks I look after are covered by good lads, so that's not too much of a problem.

On the subject of packet sizes, one thing which never ceases to amuse me is how opinions change rapidly as regards what constitutes a driver's packet when a walk man signs for a driving job, or vice versa...
