I started working for Royal Fail 20 years ago on June 1st.

What a different service and job it was then.

They haven't improved much have they --------- I suppose the waterproof coats are a bit better .

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I have also done 20 years and if I remember correctly the basic pay was £98 per week. :wave :wave :oops: :oops:

Sad thing is I can remember the day I started as well it was 1 week shy of 23 years after I joined the Forces,

Done 30 years this year,RM took me and a shed load of others to Windsor races :Very Happy I was hoping to get the full 40 years in,i'll be 59 then draw the pension.....but it looks as if the pot will be empty by then,also will it still be Royal Mail or will we be roaming about in nice bright orange uniforms with TNT Mail embroidered on the back(formerly known as Royal Mail--Consignia-GPO)

Fortunately, I can't remember that far back, but I'm pretty sure I wanted to be the best postman I could have been. Of course, these days, no one at the top gives a monkey's about job satisfaction. All they're interested (and anyone else, come to that) is how bloody flexible can they make us poor sods work so that they'll be able to not only cover all the walks, but also cover all of their cracks in this now vastly broken business. :whistle
We posties do things differently, but we still get shot at!

Well come to the club mate, sad thing is I also remember my start date a week after what became known as the great storm of 87.
I had my 20 year gong just after the the unpleasentness in 2007 so did'nt feel like eating with management, got a very nice digi camera though which still works :wink:
I'd rather have Lockheed deliver the mail than ride around in a plane built by the post office

I took the vouchers and bought a speed camera detector for my motor. saved my neck a few times now :pray
