ONE DAY STRIKES.
I cannot understand the logic behind one day strikes
After last one we had the muppets coming in half an hour early, running around again and clearing there duty
Management happy
So i lose a days pay for nothing? Public get there post a day late so whats new they say! It,ll be the same again this Friday (13th) Another days pay lost . Leighton and crozzy saving a fortune in wages :cfo I don,t remember the miners and good old British Leyland saying we will have a one day strike then back to work next day? CWU has got to make a decision on this as one dayers to me don,t hurt anyone except my wage slip

Hi Bristol Chris,
I understand where your coming from but shortly the CWU will probably anounce a Friday and then the following Monday a day out of each week but for customers thier last day of mail would be thursday and not again untill the tuesday assuming that the majority of buisnesses do not work Saturdays to take 2 days out of the same week may be tempting fate for the cwu as many employees run a tight ship with thier finances especially with the recent interest rate rise.....I firmly believe that crozier/leighton want shot of the union to go forward with thier plans....hold tight brother were in for a long ride.

Leighton wanted shut of the CWU a long time ago, say 2003 (or even before); but the NO vote last time made it easier for his lies to be shown for what they are now.
The Complete National SDD Farce Agreement has not been kept to, as are many other agreements which RM love trying to circumvent.
But now the posties have got wise to these two and didn't expect the support that has been shown.
I think we will be out for a week at some point in the future because they'll refuse to listen.
The CWU are being careful at the moment, but the proverbial will hit the fan very soon I think.
IMHO :)

The thing is though that as it stands we still get a decent(ish) wage even though we're off for day strikes. Start talking about weeks and it'll end within a fortnight and against the CWU too in my opinion. As has been stated either on this board or others, the vast majority of RM staff don't have vast amounts (and I include myself in this statement) of readies stuffed away in the bank to be able to fall back on should weekly strikes or more than one day ones be announced. Mssrs Leighton and Crozier must know this. Part of me thinks this is where they're steering the CWU to as well. On huge cliff top.Bloke7 wrote:Leighton wanted shut of the CWU a long time ago, say 2003 (or even before); but the NO vote last time made it easier for his lies to be shown for what they are now.

re: Leighton & Crozier have nothing to lose
Neither of them have much to lose. If they are forced to stand down by the government then they will leave on principle, which will mena the company and the government are in the shite. Brown does not want to have to be dragged into this arena as he'll have a battle with the NHS and teachers soon over poublic sector pay going up by less than inflation.
Sorry to say that Leighton and Crozier are probably saying if you want a one week strike or longer then go for it. They are also saying a one day strike is fine we have ways of handling this and the public won't feel the pinch.
Last one day strike got coverage, but I didn't hear much in the press about business or consumer dissatisfaction.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, maybe you see it differently if you read the socialistworker?

once we've had 5 one dayers rm can afford to pay us the 4.8% the union were asking for from the money they've saved in unpaid wages. anything above 5 one dayers they can start paying the pension deficit as well. they would welcome this kind of action every year, just throw in a few strings and remove them as soon as we've financed the pay rise for them.

The one day strikes will have more of an effect if everyone refused to do overtime in the days leading up to and following the strike day.
Unfortunately there are too many who only seem to care about the wage packet at the end of the day rather that making the one day actions more effective.
I've actually heard people in my office say that they will only stay out for one more day.
Some of the same people also try for as much overtime as they can get.
My hours have been reduced from 28 to 25 (health grounds), I can't afford to strike but I can't afford not to make a stand.
One day strikes (even if it's one day every week) I can cope with financially (just). Any more would place severe financial pressure on my family and I would be forced to reconsider my situation (another employer rather than cross a picket line)

One day strikes seem to be the norm these days. Look at how many one dayers the London Underground have. I agree with some of the other comments on here re overtime. I may be biased however as I don`t do overtime! I can handle one dayers, bills are covered but no money to spend at weekends. So I`d go for the Fri/Mon strike days. Will be interesting to see the publicity re RM profits when they eventually announce them, that coupled with the huge bonuses the managers get (6k after tax for shift managers!).

docket costs money, generate as much as you can for those willing to do it,its the only lingo certain people speak, hit the bottom line hard enough and then big people start to take note, when they look bad things start to happen, remember even the top boys picked stars have walked out over their plans for the company maybe they are looking for a way out that does not mean they loose face and the next big paying job,HIT THEM WHERE IT HURTS THE MOST AND HIT THEM HARD
