Hi All,

I am a delivery office rep. During the recent strikes my office was to say the least RUBBISH.
Most ignored the meetings i held before and went in.

So i am in a position where i could not really care for a good percentage of the office.
But do i stay to support the few i do care about and let the rest of the office continue to reap the benefits from having a rep or give the job up and let them be screwed over in the next few months (as i am sure there would not be anyone up for the job)?

As i am so unsure, i thought you guys and girls could decide.

I cant tell you what to do but how about just being an unofficial rep for the people who supported you.F... the rest.

You should ask the few you do care about and stuff the rest that did'nt give a toss. I know if you were at my office I would want you to stay.All the best.

If only for those who supported the union. In a weak office like yours (no offence) RM will screw those who opposed them. Your mates will need you, forget the rest, if they can't support the union, not you as rep, but the union, then they should resign from it. I know they will also reap any benefits you can get for the loyal members, but the good guys cannot and should not be left to suffer.
It's a tough one but what else can you do? Could you watch and do nothing when you saw those who stood by you on the picket line, being picked off by management.

If you're asking, it must be because it is a close run thing. Erm, perhaps you can furnish us with some more of the dilemmas you face without going into too much detail...

I wouldn't want to be a shop floor rep -- not in this union, mostly because this job I'm in is humongous. I have been a shop floor rep in another trade union, the TGWU, where I was lucky enough to get union recognition for my work place, but to be honest, I haven't got half the confidence of what you fellows must have. Personally, though, I'd stick it out. But, I'm only saying that because it would take all my will and determination to get to where you are, and to be perfectly honest I just haven't got that anymore.

I'm one of those people who used to go in for the 'all or nothing' kind of scenario. I'm not like that anymore, and that's the reason why I wouldn't do what you're doing, mostly because I've other interests, like web page building; something I'll have to get into big time if things start to go really pear-shaped around here.
We posties do things differently, but we still get shot at!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I think you should stick it out for the reasons previously stated. Good luck mate this world is full of W*****s and I expect the ones who didnt bother to Strike are the ones who moan the most, evertime some little change is made to THEIR duty! :no no

I believe everyone is entitled to be accompanied by a "workmate" during any interview with their DIM? Perhaps you could operate as an Unofficial Rep (who happens to know the system) and just go in with Union posties who have a problem?

Be prepared for the s**t Storm if you take that line as I'm sure your DIM wont appreciate it. Better to be an Official Rep and then play the "I'm being picked on because I'm the Union Rep..." card :nana

For what its worth Im not an Official Rep but was dragged in by my DIM and threated with a conduct code offence, simply for discussing the Pros & Cons of the forthcoming strike! Seems my delicate little fellow workmates felt threated by my "Free Thinking". Well F**k them.... :cfo

I was waivering as far as giving up as a union rep,i didn't feel i had the heart to carry on fighting.
Then RM showed their true colours(i can't go into details,the case is still active)and it's only made me more determined to fight for
all the members that backed the action.
Whats happened to me has proved once and for all that we as a work force could not survive without the hard work and dedication of all reps.
So stick with it mate,lots of us depend on people like you.
