We had a little episode in work today over D2DS .

The postie concerned had been off sick last week,comes in today to find one set of D2DS for this week.

Asst DIm approaches him clip board in hand and ask about his D2DS from last week,Postie informs him that he was off the previous week.

Next thing DIM is at his fitting saying to him that he could deliver last weeks D2DS as he only had one for this week.

I approached the DIM over this and informed him 1. If he alters the date on the D2D docket this would be classed as fraud and i would report him 2. In the 2007 agreement it clearly states D2DS will be done on a "WEEKLY BASIS" He then got all upity with me and stormed of to his office shutting the door behind him.

5 mins later hes out informing me that he had spoken to the D2D manager and he had told him he was ok to force this postie to do last weeks D2DS with a 40% extra payment. So out came from my back pocket the D2D agreement ,high lighted in bright yellow was the section on th etime scale of D2DS he said to me "I dont care ".

By this time i started to lose my rag and asked him for the name of the D2D manager as he was breaking an agreement and this should not be the case at present due to the on going talks with the CWU and R/M.

Lucky for me there was DSM in our office today so up to him i went and explained my situ .It was only off him i got some common sense and he agreeded with me that last weeks D2DS shouldnt be done this week.

So my point now is are DIMS and ASST DIMS so scared out of there wits to make a call like this that they are showing them selves to be so incompetent it beggars belief. There was absolutely no need for either of us to have this argument be he chose to and lost. And here was me thining R/M management were all singing from the hym sheet.

We have had this a few times at our office and the postie concerned has been offered an enhanced payment to do them the next week. As far as I know they have been happy to do them. Money in the bank kinda thing.

Did you ask the postie if he wanted to do them? Id hate to have thought that postie was just stood there in the argument with a look on his face thinking well I could poss do with some extra cash.

D2Ds are usually time sensitive and should not be delivered beyond the stated timescale (who wants to get a leaflet saying that something is on offer only to find out that it's over).

The point here is,usually the D2D's are put out on a saturday,for the following week.
I've specifically asked on occasions if i can get a good start by taking some on the saturday.
answer,no! they are time sensitive and have to be delivered that week,not early,not later!
i fully accept that,but the onus is on the manager to ensure 20% are delivered each day.
These decisions beggar belief,it's like backing a horse you already know's lost!

i bet if he done them he wouldnt have got his extra 40% though and they would have denied ever saying it. Stand your ground if you know they are wrong just refuse and call their bluff, they cant sack you if they do they will look stupid when someone higher up tells them they are wrong.

We have to remember, extra money offered to the postie or not, the CUSTOMERS who print these leaflets pay to have them delivered on a set week and to knock them out a week later is a BREACH OF CONTRACT. We should not be party to Royal Mail fraud by delivering them LATE.

20 percent on first day .. 40 percent thereafter .. if not put out for first delivery Wednesday it is unreasonable for them to expect delivery. Saturday delivery of D2Ds is at the discretion of DIM DOMS.

I've often delivered two or three weeks worth of D2Ds in one go. As long as they are not time sensitive it is permitted in our office ... although you do get in a bit of bother if you don't deliver those allocated so they rarely build up these days.

A lot of this is sooooooooo wrong.

Now while most of us hate the s**t,although i have always said they are our friend as it's not only extra money for us it's extra business for the business,the fact that they are being scammed should be bought up to higher up.
At the end of the day it could work in your favour if you're struggleing to do them for whatever reason.

As long as i get a seperate payment and i can prep them in my duty time i love em.Money for old rope as your going to the letterbox anyway. I hope in the new agreement we allow more than 3 D2Ds.as postman says good for the company AND our wages. Lots at my DO loath them and a couple of other posties do theirs for them, but usually these are people who still see "job and finish" as part of being a delivery postman and the D2DS hold them up.

I think that is the most likely reason - it is the managers responsibility to control the system so that all due items are delivered in the time scale that has been set. Whoever was on the walk the prvious week should have been told to do them and been paid accordingley. The premium payments for late handling are designed to compensate for pressure and distribution problems - NOT for getting lazy DIMs out of the s**t.
