My work shoes always seem to wear out on the heels ,but not worn flat but at like a 45 degree angle? Must be cause i deliver on a lot of steep areas.
Another thing with the winter /snow aproaching has anyone tried those seal skin socks?
I heard they are waterproof.
I get through lots of pairs of ordainary socks i keep getting a hole in the toes.
And thought they might be worth a try but they are about £25 a pair.
I know exactly where you are coming from, I have similar problems, I would say be careful how much you pay for socks as you may still find you wear through holes quickly, I use double layer waking socks but find where they give comfort and the inner layer keeps feet dry also my toes wear through pretty quick still. My feet are a big bone of contention with my managers, as none including the new CAT shoes are designed for my feet or style of walking so all have problems all the time, i also find as well as toes wearing in socks I damage the inside of the shoe as well which in turn wrecks the socks quicker, therefore ordering shoes every couple of months.

Can anyone here give me advice regarding shoes? I think the problem is actually probably with my managers.
I'm hitting the two year mark now with RM and have ony ever been issued with one pair of shoes, which wore down to uselessness in about three months. I asked a manager about getting a new pair and was told "no problem"... however after a few weeks with no new shoes I grumbled to a colleague who said "oh he's useless... ask a different manager".
This was repeated by 4 different managers over a period of months, each one saying I'd get new shoes but nothing forthcoming. Of course in the meantime I've shelled out a small fortune keeping my feet dry.
Whar happens when I slip on the ice and break my ankle? Does RM say "well it's your own fault for not wearing issued shoes"? I can just imagine this scenario.
What do I do? Make a fuss? Hope a manager might put two and two together? Hope Santa's good to me this year?
In our office the number for the uniform place is printed on a sheet of A4 and stuck to the wall next to the phone in the DOM's office. If you need anything you go and tell the DOM, he points at the number and tells you to phone up and order what you need. If it needs authorization you hand the phone to the DOM. About a week later you get your stuff delivered to the DO.

I used to buy own shoes £120 per pair merrell's great footwear nothing like the quality of any of RM footwear, as they did everything I needed of footwear. Unfortunately RM tried to conduct me for not wearing theirs as they were much better and I was insured, good job as since I have slipped to many times to count on the Magnums and now with the CAT shoes give me blisters as no half sizes (they sell them just not for RM) and I have fallen badly in them too.
To ensure I don't get crippled or spend too much replacing socks all the time I replace my shoes every 2 months and my manager orders them i have them with a week normally. They know if they don't I just revert to my own and it reduces there accident numbers and makes it more comfortable for me to do my job and as you know RM would never want that, when they can conduct you for wearing regulation shoes and being to clumsy etc....

Its not a fuss its your right under their rules, get your union rep involved it does wonders, doesnt stop the problem but does help (well it did with me anyway).

Bye ski tube socks--- they are thick and durable, and warm. I also wear them in summer, as conversly, they absorb all the sweat ,and keep my feet cool.I always ask folks to buy me them for Christmas-- and they last.

mule just call uniform helpline on 0800 731 5137 and order a new pair should arrive in about 14 days from order
Thanks all for the advice... I'll try asking a manager if I should call the uniform line myself and see what the reaction is, then go ahead and do it. I just wish my managers would do what the hell they're paid to do... manage.
I know "making a fuss" isn't exactly what I'd be doing, but to be let down repeatedly by different managers gives the impression that a simple pair of shoes to complete your days work is some sort of big deal.

My husband bought me a pair of waterproof socks last year,I think he felt sorry for me coming home with wet feet all the time. They are worth the £30 as they kept my feet really dry. But I would suggest wearing a thiner pair inside as they're not the softest of socks but comfy if worn as i have said with another pair.
I've been wearing my own shoes for about a year because I just couldn't get on with the Magnums. I went over on my ankle and tore a ligament about 18 months ago, so started wearing the Magnum boot for support. By the time I had got them broken in properly they had almost worn out! I've got a replacement pair upstairs unused. Just can't be bothered with them.
I've now got a pair of the Doc Marten shoes, which are at long last being re-issued again. I know once they're broken in they'll be like a pair of slippers, but I'd forgotten how long that takes!
Although it has been threatened in the past, I don't think anyone in my office has been taken down the conduct code for not wearing RM footwear. At the end of the day, only you know what you are comfortable wearing. I've been wearing £20 - £25 walking shoes from either Sports Direct or Go Outdoors for the last year or so. And for the last 20 years I have always worn my own walking boots when there is snow on the ground, because I'd rather finish my duty with warm, dry feet.
I have a pair of the seal skin socks they do keep your feet dry, but i have never walked any distance in them as i only use them for mountain biking in winter. They are quite thick and quite padded and make my shoes a bit tighter than wearing normal socks.
As for wearing rm footwear no thanks........... its nike air for me and my own waterproof walking boots when its raining/icy after 5 years ive never gone down yet .

I like them as well, but I find the laces keep coming loose every hour or so.
