Taking your dog out on your round?

Basically are posties allowed to take their dog out on your delivery?

The reason why i am asking is that i know of 2 in my office that do. They are both on rural rounds and drive a van. One goes home, collects their dog and has it in their van all day. The other leaves the office and takes thier dog from the car and into the van prior to starting their delivery? Surely this cant be allowed. And i am sure the manager knows about it.

Well if postman pats allowed to take his cat on delivery with him whats wrong in these two posties taking there dog.

On a serious note thoe cant help you mate never heard of any one doing this before but knowing R/M there is some ancient agreement forbidding it.

my mate takes his dog round his walk with him, follows him round waits at gate for him ,id train it to deliver d2d if i was him.

I thought we where all to get mules to help us carry the mail around (and also to kick anyone who would want to steal anything ).

i would say purely on h&s grounds its a no no.supposing a member of public got bit by the posties dog>?always consider the worse case scenario because eventually it happens.in the environment we are in now the first opportunity to get rid of posties i wouldnt do it.

One girl used to take her dog for walk on delivery round. Don't know if she still do it now.

It might not be good idea as if you seen a loose dog might cause trouble and your dog might attack the dog to defend you.

one guy in our office took his dog out on a walk
dog ran in a garden and killed some kids rabbit right in front of them

My dogs 12 now, he can only just walk to the bottom of the garden, dont think he would do too well on a 3 mile round

I used to about 15 years ago.I only delivered to quiet roads and she only came out on the second.She was a jack russell and was absolutely knackered by the end.Didn't do her any harm she lived to 18 years of age

I get cats sometimes following me on my round. Used to have a dog that would go for about a mile with me before he disappeared back home. Pl;enty people take their dogs out for walks so don't see why it should make any difference. Not as if the dog is stealing the mail!
