Early shift allowance being removed

Wondering if anyone has heard of this little problem that raised it's ugly head today in our office. Anyone who has moved duties in the last 2 years is having their early shift allowance stopped according to our manager this was agreed in the SDD agreement. Any other offices had this happen, means £12.37 a week less for atleast 12 guys in our office and funny how this happens after the strikes have been halted.

Lost that ages ago when we changed to a 6:15 start. Apparently the lorries are slow so we have to wait until 6:15 ... unless you consider that a 6:00 start still entitles you to shift pay. What a lucky coincidence for RM eh?

As part of our SDD changes we got to keep our early shift allowance, But as of today we will no longer receive it, i thought this was a national agreement for all full time staff.

Are the people affected now off the duty that incurred the allowance? I have just lost a night allowance recently which was protected for a set period after we stopped doing nights at our office. I don't think any allowances are protected for an unlimited period after leaving the duty and let's face it, they and I are now probably working a less inconvenient work pattern than the one for which is why we were paid extra in the first place.

Only Guys/Girls that have moved duties are going to have the early shift allowance removed the remaining staff that have stayed on there duties are unaffected even though we all moved from 5.00am to 6.15am. Seems a bit petty to pick on us, i moved from a reserve to my own duty 7 months ago, i have an option to go back to being a reserve and keep my allowance but it has taken me 6yrs to get my own duty and i aint given it up now lol.

Don't know? i was hoping this was managers just trying to be bullies again you know how they like to keep there staff happy lol. Looks like we are the only office that has had this mentioned so here is hoping it's a lot of rubbish.

What is this early shift allowance you speak of? Doesnt exist at my DO.

Early shift allowance was for posties that started (correct me if i am wrong) before 6.00am back 5 yrs ago before SDD was introduced. You got a supplement because of the unsociable hour that you started work and when SDD came in we had it protected but know they are trying to take it back.

My understanding is that it is protected for good unless you change function i.e. D.O. to Mail Centre

We used to start at 05:45 were moved to 07:00 but we kept ours.

DELIVERY SUPPLEMENT

In those offices operating Delivery Remuneration schemes, the original elements of the Delivery Supplement will be separately identified and treated in exactly the same way as the equivalent elements of pay within the national package. This will ensure that all employees are treated on a fair and equal basis. Where the Supplement consists entirely of ex-UPAP this will mean that it will be replaced by the higher level of basis pay, as UPAP will have ceased. However the assessment of guaranteed pay under this agreement (see below) will include the amounts of Supplement actually paid to each employee.

EXISTING PHGs and STREAMLINE Levels 3-6

Existing employees in these grades will assimilate to the new single grade, which has a higher level of basic pay (many Streamline employees will also pick up the assigned LGV allowances). Permanent and substantive employees graded PHG or SL3,4,5 or 6 on 31 january 2000 will also receive the following enhancements on a personal basis:

an ongoing and fully pensionable Pay Supplement of £20 per week (pro-rata to conditioned hours). This will be retained indefinitely on a frozen personal reserved rights basis whilst the employee remains in the new grade, provided that they do not move voluntarily to a job with a work content that would formerly have been graded entirely at PMN/woman/SL1-2 level prior to 1 April 2002.

enhanced shift allowances, retained indefinitely on the same basis as above but included within future pay awards, with nights retained on a fully pensionable basis so long as the employee continuously holds a job on the night shift, as follows:

Dawn shift (starts between 0201-0400) = £23.26 per week fully pensionable
Early shift (starts between 0401-0500) = £12.21 per week fully pensionable
Early shift (starts between 0501-0530) = £6.11 per week fully pensionable
Evening shift (finishes between 2000-2139) = £17.44 per week fully pensionable
Late shift (finishes between 2140-0159) = £36.05 per week fully pensionable
Night shift (three hours worked across 2300-0500) = £69.77 per week fully pensionable (as above)

enhanced rates for overtime and SA, retained on personal reserved rights as above and thereafter held on a fixed (mark-time) basis:

Monday-Saturday: overtime £8.04 per hour (for the first 10 hours during a week)
overtime £7.76 per hour (for hours worked over 10 per week)
SA £9.69 per hour
Sunday overtime £10.83 per hour SA £11.29 per hour
Bank and Public Holiday overtime £13.37 per hour
(alternatively a day off in lieu plus payment of £8.02 per hour may be taken for Holiday attendance of more than 2 hours).
Travelling Time £6.07 per hour

3 of us, myself included, recently had the early shift allowance stopped for no apparent reason. no duty change happened or anything. after ringing HR we were told that it was stopped by our dom. our dom flat out denied this and rang wages. after the call he told us it was stopped as we were not entitled to it. after taking in the agreement that clearly states it should have been covered by grandfather rights we were back dated. only thing is i believe one of us now only receives the £6.50(?) instead of £12 odd they got before
