At my wtll this morning my DOM went through a paper sent from royal mail saying why we should not strike( losing customers and business's to rival comps etc) during this discussion he informed us that those who would be out on strike this friday and next monday would lose 2 days pay on friday 13th. How can this be when the strike days are on 2 seperate weeks?

On the plus side - we'll get a full wage the week after.

Those of us who have been through strikes before are well aware of RM's pay deduction tactics.

What you then need to do as it seems they are using the'pay is done on a tues' trick is,when you do docket on a mon,DEMAND it's in the same weeks wages!!

Its because they total up pay on a monday eve/ tues morning so we will lose the monday on the same week. Did it 2007 as well

Some of the lads mentioned doing that but the DOM just went quiet and changed the subject, so its ok for them to do it but not for us

Think about it. Our weekly pay goes into our accounts at 00.01 am on Friday morning. They cannot legally deduct this Friday's pay from this weeks wages, because the strike doesn't officially start until after the wages are paid in so they don't know beforehand who is and who isn't going in to work.

Like I said, if both deductions are going to happen on the 13th, you'll just have to watch your spending knowing there's a double-hit coming. What is this fixation with a double-hit ?? Whichever way you look at it, you can't expect to not lose 2 days pay if you strike for two days, can you ?

Krussel, they have to total up pay on a Monday because it's only when the previous week has finished that they know how many days you were at work. That info has to then be processed by payroll on a Tuesday because the Bankers Automated Clearing System (BACS) takes three working days to clear funds into employees bank accounts. To include Monday's docket in the pay would mean your wages not going in until Saturday, or as that's not a working day, probably on MONDAY. Fancy having to spend the weekend waiting for your wages to go in ? I don't !!!

We should look at it as 2 days out of 14.
it is a tactic designed to shock you into thinking your losing money at twice the rate you actually are
hope nobody falls for it.
its made me more determined just thinking about it... the devious so and sos.

my day off is on the Monday, so they might take that out and I would have the hassle of sorting it out, so I am going to tackle my lino about this in order to preempt any problems.
