What is the legality in not doing them? I hate the buggers but am fortunate in a way as my run consists of part driving/part delivery so I only have around 250 to do. Hardly makes them worthwile in my opinion and would quite gladly forfeit the money if I didnt have to do them. My argument is that surely they are a form of forced overtime. People may argue that they can be done in worktime (most weeks) but wether that is the case or not there is no argument that they are a payment for extra work,i.e forced overtime. Would there not be a case there with the courts irrespective of the union signing us up for these as I as an individual did not ask to have these made compulsory?

In my office it is voluntary if you want to do them or not, if not managers get someone else to do them and they get paid for it.

They also have to give you around 15mins or so per day to prep your 20% in - dont take any of the "do it in your own time" crap

Is the 15 mins a day in your contract? We are having disputes (like most offices) with our DOM at the moment about how tight things are time wise. 15 mins is a big difference onto other queries we have like vechile checks etc. Keep up these add ons and we wont have ANY time for delivery! lol Where can I get a copy of my contract as I cant find mine?

There is no set time in the door to door agreement only that they are done inside existing working hours.

I believe it was in the late 70's that we had a serious, sudden and possibly sustained drop in posted mail. The Union, under John Taylor negotiated a payment for unaddressed items which meant that walks in general were maintained and even more important, the jobs themselves were secured.

Since that time D2D or the previous HDS work has been a substantial part of deliveries. Love them or loath them they are here to stay. They may be a pain in the neck and seemingly pointless items but they help pay the bills both for RM and you.

Just for comparison this is a shot of a week's HDS here in France. Mostly supermarket stuff and catalogues from DIY sheds etc., with the occasional local info leaflets. Our postman uses a van but this is the same amount as delivered on trolleys and bikes in the towns. Recently most of it is delivered on a Tuesday, sound familiar? Without it La Poste could not operate in rural areas.

We already this type of mail it's called mailsort 3,dsa,BB etc.It's just a different pricing and handling system.

If you're moaning about D2Ds now when you're getting paid for them, just wait till next year. In that leaked document RM plan to absorb them into our workload and cease paying us extra for them.

I had a couple of arguments about D2Ds and the time it takes to do them. Or I should say, the fact that doing D2Ds leaves you no time to take out part of a lapsed walk. I quite often used to get the "You're supposed to do them in your own time." routine.

I asked for 'own time' to be defined. Was he really suggesting you spend near enough four hours out on your walk, go home, then walk round again with the D2Ds?
