Hooper Report Discreditted

Post by Eric »

With the sacking of Professor David Nutt the government has shown it expects its advisors to preach its own views whether they are correct or not. Clearly Richard Hooper was recruited because he would recommend the government's preferred option of part privatisation for Royal Mail even if it isn't the best option for the country, the company or its staff.

" we would like you to research and prepare a report for us ..... and this is what you will put in it"

Now doesn't that management style sound familiar?

Hoopers report was delayed because the government didn't like it and it had to be rewritten

Yes the string puller and Mr Fixit himself - Maggie Mandelson - ever loyal to his unaccountable and undemocratic European paymasters . :mfo - The idea is that it's all been ratified , now p*** off and stop moaning taking us all back 200 years to glorified serfdom .

It's " funny " that one of the biggest countries in the EEC - Germany is having a lot of stuff in treaties adapted & rewritten to suit . Hardly surprising as they'd " problems " in the 30's & 40's with a Megalomanic Dictator who wasn't too keen on democracy and human rights . :d'oh!

According to this week's Private Eye ( IIRC - my copy is left on my bench - MR reading ) Germany has passed a law that allows it's supreme court to examine and overrule any EU law it wishes.....which bypasses the whole point of Lisbon / EU Constitution - and as they say people looking for wiggle room ( such as Dave Snooty and his tory chums ) are watching with interest.

I think ? - the idea is to have this super state to economically rival the States or China , however the EEC is heavily influenced by Big Businesses and the banks ( Dave Snooty's real mates ) , to make more money the lobbyists want their hands on the public sector cake ( The original EC Deregulation directive came from a Dutch free - marketeer ) and I'm afraid Billy & Dave get in the way :hmmmm .

The Tories did use " wriggle room " in the 90's getting a opt out of the Maastricht Treaty with the Social Chapter which " coincidentally " included the European Working Time Directive and the Minimum wage .

What New Labour did was get the most watered down version of the Social Chapter as there would have been a lot of pressure from the CBI .

The other irony about the EEC was that it's founding fathers if you will were former fascists from World War 2 - no need to invade countries and blow everything to b***ery anymore - just pass Directives .

It'll all end in tears over the EU with the Tories and they'll see through former cr** TV station spin doctor Cameron - let's face it , His Toniness got out at a very opportune time .

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The also ignored:

On Page 15
Management, in turn, must be prepared to
play its role in improving relationships at a national and local level by setting
out its vision for the company in a transparent way, the implications of
transformation, risks of failure, and the opportunities for diversification.
Page 73
To modernise, Royal Mail needs commercial confidence. That will not happen
unless there is political separation, better engagement between the
management and workforce, and a joint commitment to modernise the
service in the best interests of the taxpayer, consumer and employees.
Page 142
the need for Royal Mail to put customers at the centre of its
strategy. The management culture was currently inward looking and
should be more focused on customers.

As this thread may now be reaching a wider audience perhaps someone can explain why the Hooper Report was commissioned less than 2 years after mail volumes hit an all time high (according to the BBC). It seems to show an amazing degree of foresight by the government. Such a pity the politicians didn't show the same level of planning when equiping our troops for Afghanistan.
