Reason for strike-breaking

In my area people who have decided not to support the ballot to take strike action seem to have 3 ready made excuses.

"I cant afford to strike" - this is the usual excuse given by someone with a mortgage or rent and kids.

" Don't know what it's about" - this is the excuse given by someone without kids/mortgage or live with parents.

"Everyone's entitled to their opinion" -this is the excuse given by someone whose mortgage is paid for or/ and kids have grown up.

They're not that stupid as to be walked all over.

The truth is they are so selfish that they aren't willing to lose a days pay, knowing full well that most people will be striking and they will get the benefits of any agreement anyway. All the positives, none of the negatives - they dont care what their workmates think.

There are a few genuine cases where people have genuine hardships and have to go in, but 99% of strikebreakers don't fall into that category. Certainly not the one in my office who has 3 cars, a motorbike and a 2nd job, yet 'can't afford to strike'

sorry ppl but i am subject to an IVA,i have not told anyone in my D.O (cos its none of their feckin business),i have no choice it is a legal & binding stipulation,this is the only job i could get that still pays weekly,i stayed out in '07 cos i had a bit of money stashed away (wink,wink)
but i'm snookered this time,the grief i get on the picket line is nothing against what i would get if i fall behind on this,once again sorry

I think you would be eligible for help from the Union re hardship funds,speak in confidence to your local rep
