Policy on being moved to other offices?

Wondered if any of you chaps could help me out with something?

im currently on a p/t contract with RM and instead of working in my own office i have been getting moved around to cover sick leave in other offices, so of which are 1 hour by bus or 30 minutes by train away from my office.

I have been told i must leave home earlier to reach the other office to be there for my start time (9.30) meaning i have to be on the train for 9. When im finished i still have the 30 minute journey and thats ive the train is soon if not ive got a 20 minute wait in the station, meaning i have to travel over 1 hour a day

Ive been told i can only claim either my travelling time or my fare for the train? is this correct? I should work 9.30 till 2 (with my 20 minute break so 1.40 really)

So is the management right to have me travelling from 9am and getting home art nearly 3pm? the time i get to my home area (where the office i should be is too) as im only getting paid 4.5 hours and im out for nearly 6

I took this job as it was part time and i could finish near my house so i could go and do other things with my time now i feel im being messed around

there is a pre-standing agreement between RM/CWU meaning that its RM responsibility to provide transport both there and back.

i had the same problem when i first started, the green newboy syndrome, using my own car to travel to other office's. there was union involvement and i eventually got both the travelling expenses and overtime. even though i was helping them out it wasn't good enough, they still tried to rip me off. so now if they want me to go to another office, i get to my office and at my start time i am chauffeured by a dim, driver, whatever. also everybody is made aware that i want to be chauffeured back to my office for my finish time, not after. as far as i'm aware you cannot refuse to go but there's no need to let them take the p**s, get the union involved. good luck

if the office you are based at wants you to work at another office, what you should do is go to your own office for your start time and then its down to them to arrange a lift there and back for you and you will be back at your own office for your finish time. They are trying it on with you because your part time but thats how ive always known it to work.

Thanks for the replys, thats how i thought it worked too, i wouldnt mind if they actually paid me the OT for it but its like getting blood out a stone and too much hassle. I will go to my office on my time tomorrow, as im in later than my union rep and finish after they are away is there a nation number i can call to speak to a rep as i think i will get more hassle tomorrow

There should be a local agreement between your rep and DOM as to which offices are to be included in any local movement. As has been said before it's their job to provide transport in their time to get you there and back. Having said that I've known it where they've paid overtime to get you there and back. As long as the member is happy then so am I.
Your Area Rep is the next person you need to speak with if your Unit Rep is not available. Also, some if not all units have a sub rep to cover when your Unit Rep aint available.

One of the "enablers£" of phase 2 of the P&M agreement says

Working in nearby offices – Areas will identify and agree with the CWU locally a approach (which could include the use of volunteers and reserves) to working in nearby offices within employees’ contracted hours which will include travel times and appropriate travel and subsistence arrangements.

So your local agreement should have this included. If not the enabler IMHO should take precedence.

you get to your own office at your start time then its down to them to get you to another office by either taking you in a royal mail van or paying your travel there and back
