Can anyone tell me is there a rule on overtime.? I work on the bag openning and if theres any overtime i never get asked, Instead 3 other people do who are good friends with the shift manager, they work on deliveries and not in same section. When i asked my union rep to find out why the info that they brought back was that "THEY WORK MUCH FASTER". Yes i agree they do get the job done quicker BUT they breal rules of HEALTH AND SAFETY. by pulling 2 at a time.they also dont do the job properly i.e cattun the straps on bundles of flats and traying the right way up. but the manager dont care as the mail is out of the office,
i had no overtime again this week whilst between the 3 of them they had over 60 hours. is this fair? as our union rps are once again weak and dont like to rock the boat.

Re: RULES ON OVERTIME
I'm afraid it's an individual grievance you have to look at. Other than having a quiet word with your duty person and asking if there's anything going that is. I know overtime is not an automatic right but what there is should be shared out equally.

Re: RULES ON OVERTIME
Have a word with your rep and also your H&S rep. If the job is not being done correctly then this needs to be pulled up. The rep may be able to sort something out without the grievance procedure being invoked. Depends on whether he/she gets on with the managers or not. During this current dispute it IS hard though at the best of timeskookaburra wrote:we have asked loads of times and they say theres no overtime goin. then we find out that these people come in when we have gone home

Re: RULES ON OVERTIME
Overtime rules are different from office to office, but what is going on at your place maybe wrong.
Is the OT there performing S/A? If it is have they signed a contract?
If its not then this OT should then be allocated within the unit amongst the staff either on an aggy system or a rotate so that everyone gets a fair crack. No way should managers favourites be getting all the docket.Even if its S/A those contracts would have been given a time frame 3,6 or 12 months, you need to find out exactly whats going on speak to the local rep and shift manager,if still no joy get in touch with the area rep and area manager and see if that makes a difference.

Re: RULES ON OVERTIME
hi, again this week they had 20 hours wen the rest of us had 2-4 hours...they arent S/As they are awaiting phone calls everyday. I asked my union rep to find out off the shift manager why this is. And his reply was "SHOW ME ANYONE THAT WORKS AS QUICK AS THEM AND THEY ALSO CAN HAVE AS MUCH DOCKET AS THEY WANT", Today we had a video on HEALTH AND SAFETY and showing us the BAG OPENNING and how its done. And if we worked to the video we would do half the amount we do now...CANT WIN. our union do nothing in swansea at all
