STRESS

Post by dwainedibbly »

ive been a postie for well over six years and cant believe how many people in my office have gone off sick with so called "stress" my father suffered from stress and its a serious condition.
These people dont get their own way and they go home with "stress".....basically they are throwing thier toys out the pram its really pathetic.

Coincidentally its always our union rep or the close friends of the union rep....strange

Well I'm a rep mate and I do know what stress and anger is although I have'nt gone sick with it.
I'ts frustration at management and some posties who are selfish!
I can't obviously comment on your rep but ask people to put up with what I have to for a while!!

To be honest I think its quite common in most workplaces, people go off with 'stress' because its a cop-out in a lot of cases. I have had proper stress and its not nice believe me - you feel tense, fast heart-beat, feel exhausted at the end of the day. Not nice.

like said prevously, its a cop out. stress is thrown around willy nilly because people have got alot of work on and may not finish with time to spare. or if something dont go thier way its "im going off with stress" its a joke

although i can understrand why people go off with stress in this job. the managers do not make this job easy with thier bullyboy tactics and mindgames.

Why would you think you had proper stress and yet immediatly downgrade anybody else as a cop-out?

I would expect more compassion from someone who has experienced just how difficult an ilness it is.

Would you have liked to have been called a cop-out?

Did you all go to the same medical school or different ones?
or am i right in assuming the only letters after your name are those above.?
iv never suffered stress but then maybe I'm lucky i wouldn't say it doesn't exist.
or the other people don't have it.
especially what iv seen management up to recently.

Not that I'm about to do it but how do you take off for stress? Can you actually ring up and tell the bookroom (or wherever), "Hey, I'm stressed. Not coming in."?

That being said, I can completely believe people going off for stress. I've worked in places outside Royal Mail where people were absolutely miserable with it. Combine an awful, screaming boss with long hours and low pay and you've got the perfect recipe for it.

For some people at RM its simply getting worked up about an un-realistic workload which causes worry leading to not sleeping. If you have ever gone 3 days without sleep you will know its hard to function at anything, you are a wreck. If you go to the docs and they will call it stress and sign you off.
Stress has many levels and affects people differently.

i am currently off work with illness
work related stress leading to anxiety phobias depression
high bp etc
stress exists do not be fooled
my problems started with coming into work faced with unrealistic targets of mail to del within set times
coming in to face 19 trays of mail after a day off does not inspire only has degenerating effect
continual depressing workplace /workforce etc which you take home with you
worries all the time ,not wanting to go into work
i would much rather have a broken leg or physycal ailment
stress exists but rm dont deal with it and it will get much worse as this period of change / modernisation continues

Let me assure you stress definitely exists, and it can make people take their own lives.
I have seen it and been through it ,I lost my son to it.
DO NOT SAY IT DOES NOT EXIST
