Are Your Managers S**B sympathisers??
last week i made an innocent comment towards one of my 'colleagues' about how lucky he was to have his day off fall on strike day, he then went on to reply with some degree of pride that he would be working his rest day, i then proceeded to ask him...quite calmly 'don't you think that's taking the piss a bit?? he then went straight in to the office and told the manager i was aggressive and intimidating,he was scared for his safety and wanted to go home with stress! Half the office testified that the comment was in no way aggressive and was my right to air an honest opinion, our manager (a self proclaimed trade unionist) practically flew for me! accusing me of being a bully and due to past issues, informing me that i'm known by the managers as a target.has anyone else found that where treatment is concerned managers are almost instantly in favour of Those who wish to work..Even though On strikeday the same person in front of the same manager recieved a verbal barrage from someone else..and nothing was said..(i'm assuming because the picketer isn't known)..and then when we went back on Sat a strikebreaker ASSAULTED a member of staff from the line, who when complained was told the manager was too busy to deal with the problem!! W.T.F???? Desperately in need of sane guidance.....
if you aint payin..the mails stayin!!!

See your rep, document word for word the conversation you had with this strike breaker.
Get all your witnesses to try and document the conversion word for word aswell if they can remember it.
Dont approach him in the future hopefully your office will send him to coventry if you do approach him dont do it alone.
If you feel an injustice has taken place ,take out a greiveance against this individual.
Whats happening here is he is setting the bench mark and showing to people in your office that if anythink is said to him about being a strike breaker he will run to the boss kicking and screaming, Hes just trying to deflect the flack from himself and trying to point the finger of accusation at you.

I think the first response is for the scab to ask you to stop, only then can he take matter further if you don,t but get witnesses to back up your comments to him and put in a grievance against both of them for unfair treatment in light of comments made by others on a seperate occasion when nothing was said to others.

Pistol same situation in other offices you must get signed statements from colleagues before they try and stop you ,to say in no way you were intimidating and the behaviour of the other "gentleman" involved must be reported through agreed procedures its your only proctection
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

If somebody has been assaulted by a strikebreaker ,it might be a idea to take it outside the PO and report it to the Police , at the very least get a crime number . That way it's harder for RM to close ranks and twist things roundgb93 wrote:Pistol same situation in other offices you must get signed statements from colleagues before they try and stop you ,to say in no way you were intimidating and the behaviour of the other "gentleman" involved must be reported through agreed procedures its your only proctection
RM won't like it - but sorry tough !
I think a Tribunal Panel may find the " Target " bit interesting - Target ? Why ? , I wonder why the union want a independent review of H&B
From what I heard from Union sources - it sounded if some managers had watched too much telly or too many films . There was method in the madness though - the idea was to create a culture of fear , soften people up for privatization .

That old chestnut STRESS. I have never known so many people in my life to claim they have stress. It is the most awful thing to have and for people to claim to have it to get a reaction from the manager is selfish. We had people just walk out when it was a heavy day with so called stress just to get home for the footy. The man should be ashamed of himself, just trying to get a co worker in the crap. Good luck

In one quick answer yes and it really hacks us all off special treatment and all thatMoNkEyBoY wrote:See your rep, document word for word the conversation you had with this strike breaker.

Yes - but it won't last long. Once we're back it will be back to the old routine - they'll rely on the one's like us who are principled and hard workers.

I know a manager who doesn't like strike breakers because they "muddy the water". If they weren't there the situation would be more clear cut and more quickly resolved. And of course there would be less hostility and stress in the workplace as a result. Common sense from a manager. Whatever next I wonder?

Re: Are Your Managers S**B sympathisers??
That old chestnut stress my friend as you describe it is not the employee's inability to cope with excessive workloads and the unreasonable demands of incompetent and bullying managers; stress is a consequence of the employer's failure to provide a safe system of work as required by the UK Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. Clearly blaming the sufferer of stress for suffering stress is an admission of failure to fulfil this obligation of duty of care.nelson wrote:That old chestnut STRESS. There is only one way of dealing with stress that is to identify the cause and then work to reduce or eliminate that cause. Like many I recognise that bullying is one of the main but least recognised cause of stress in the workplace today. Likewise poor management is a major cause of stress.
Stress comes in two forms: positive and negative.
Positive stress (or eustress) is the result of competent management and mature leadership where everyone works together and everyone is valued and supported. Positive stress enhances well-being and can be harnessed to enhance performanceand fuel achievement.
Negative stress (or distress) is the result of a bullying climate where threat, coercion and fear substitute for non-existent managerial skills. Employees have to work twice as hard to achieve half as much to compensate for the dysfunctional and inefficient management. Negative stress diminishes quality of life and causes injury to health.
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

It could be a case of the manager in question jumping to the wrong conclusions, I imagine all have been briefed about harrassement and any comments innocently made will taken seriously. Once the facts have been established I'm sure they will calm down.
Thankfully in our office there have been no situations of heavy handedness (yet). Hope you get it sorted asap.
