FURTHER STRIKE DATE ANNOUNCED

The Communication Workers Union today announced a further day of strike action commencing the evening of Thursday 12th July and continuing through Friday 13th July.

Royal Mail group workers will begin 24 hours of strike action with shifts commencing after 1900 hours.

In announcing the strike, the union is again providing a further opportunity for Royal Mail to return to negotiations or face more strikes. The Union has written to Allan Leighton, Royal Mail chair, to personally take part in fresh negotiations. (Letter attached in full)

Deputy General Secretary, Dave Ward said “Allan Leighton has the personnel opportunity to avoid more strikes, simply by returning to meaningful negotiations. If he again is dismissive of his employees then there will be further strike action.

Over 95% of the workforce took part in the strike action last Friday; it shows the extent of the overwhelming support of the workforce to achieve both a decent pay rise and an agreed approach to automation and major change.â€

New Royal Mail strike announced

Royal Mail workers will stage a second 24-hour walkout over pay and jobs, their union has said.
The strike will begin at 1900 BST on 12 July and will end the following day, the Communication Workers' Union said.

Last Friday, the CWU led a 24-hour walkout across the UK - the first national postal strike in a decade.

Workers are angry over plans to restructure the company, though Royal Mail argues it has to change in order to better compete with rival firms.

there is a song there somewhere if the lads who did "500 miles" have the time.

Reword "I don't like mondays" to "I don't work fridays" - got to be a chart topper.

Its a NI bank Holiday - lots of Marching with banners pipes and drums and bonfires. Remembers the battle of the Boyne I think.

wakkono says on a locked thread

anyone know what the cwu is playing at??? 1 day strikes will get us nowhere rm are taking not a blind bit of notice one day didnt work lets increase it to two then three and so on one dayers will only serve to drag this dispute out longer than it should and the longer it goes on the more chance of members scabbing lets get the boxes blocked up, lets not deliver mail for a few days and lets get the public/firms/goverment to take a real good look at the situation and lets stop
a.ssing around !!!!!!! lets look as though we mean business i hear people saying they cant afford an all out strike? well i say to you that add up all the one dayers it will take to make rm listen judging by the first one it will take lots , id rather be out for a week perhaps two solid than for this to drag on with one dayers maybe for 3/4 even 5 months any one else feel this way?
