Christmas work

The dom came round with a clip board and asked everyone whether they would or not be working past there time on delivery. The other question was will you be working your day off? I just said forget it, because this is just another way of "oh lets see what our budget will be like this xmas"! Now this is all new to me, and have never been asked before if or not i'll be working past my contracted hours.

I asked my dom what was the point of this exercise...and he explained that he just wants to have an idea of how many people will be working through the xmas pressure. I am sorry but for one, i can not predict the future and to say whether or not i'll be over my time on that day as i might have other commitments...who comes up with these ridiculous ideas!!

Our dom has also decided not to have two people on nightshift, which we have had every year since i started (10 years ago). The alternative will be the machines he says...well i hope these machines break down...and the machines can't prep in walks ...its going to be chaos this xmas and no doubt management will want more work off you, for no extra pay. Bah humbug, xmas is cancelled.

Just wondering if any body else has been asked the same questions?

Had exactly the same thing in my office. The were trying to get people to sign a calender with their days off as some kind of contract that they would work their day off during xmas pressure!

We've been told we wont have any night sorters but that 'we might get a few people to start a couple of hours early to do IPS'. Well that's sorted then!

One guy offered to do his door to doors on Christmas day morning!

christmas shifts hasn't even been mentioned in our office yet, i am more than happy to cut off and finish on my scheduled finishing time

Is the DOM refering to walk sequencing machines (eitheir in your DO or local MC) or is he refering to normal sorting machines doing walk sequencing in the local MC (if it is the normal sorting machines in the local MC he is refering to he'll be out of luck as them machines will be running outward mech plans instead of walk sequencing).

I certainly won't be going over my time during the fortnight before xmas, can't call it pressure anymore, because there is none , despite DIMs up and down the country, cacking themselves in October just at the mere thought of it. Waynekerrs.

because their is no agreement mate, royal mail can't force us to work over 40 hours per week

Last i heard we have a fleet of reindeer and 47 Albanians who cannot speak a word of English and not forgetting :cfo who said just shut up and don't tell anyone!.
