Petty Bosses Pull The Plug:
How petty minded are Royal Mail Managers? Their antics at Southend Mail Centre in Essex gave us a clue.

During last weeks strike action, bosses awarded themselves and other strike breakers free drinks and snacks by turning the settings on vending machines to "free".

They were unable to reset the machines when strikes returned to work the following and, as a result, CWU union members gleefully helped themselves to free food.

One senior manager was so infuriated at seeing the strikers' joy that he took drastic action - and cut the plug off the machine!

Surely the company who own the snack machines will be taking further action? Both on theft and vandelism

I thought those machines where owned by ROMEC and by vandalising the machine he should be disciplined

By the fact that they gained access to the machines they must have had a key from someone. The bill would have been sent to the DOM of the office. Management did the same at our office and paid for all non strikers breakfasts last Friday, (claimed back on expenses). When DOM came onto line for a while I asked if we could have a free brekkie too to which he replied if we came into work we could. I said we'd come as far as the gates could we have half of one

The vending is supplied by 'Quadrant/Compass' the catering team for Royal Mail - that manager must be some serious prick, fancy getting upset over something like that ?? Really thats vandalism ??

Wont say where but in our D.O people recall being taken down the conduct code for as little as shaking the the machine, because when they have paid the machine has jammed up. Hay ho cutting the plug is desparate sign of frustration, but thats what these people who lead us are like. No sign of management skills, just throw a wobbly like a child. Put him on the naughty step. Royal mail will not take furtheir action on him be sure of that.
