losing D2D money?

Post by up_the_bracket »

at the office i work we are currently going through a 're-pick'. we also have 'bag-carriers' on 20 hour contracts. the bosses have said that the bag-carriers will have there own walks, to be prep'd for delivery by full-timers. but this means full-timers currently with walks and up to 10years services won't get a chance of a pick. they are wondering what they can do about the loss of the D2D money you get with having your own walk. are they entitled to any compensation?

That is all wrong - the walks should all be available regardless of the contracted hours of delivery staff - the only difference in the contracts is the amount of prep/IPS/other duties performed prior to delivery. Our office does re picks based on seniority (and we have some very senior part timers) and the walk they choose becomes a part or full time duty depending on who chooses it. The walk length and volumes are all the same if you believe Pegasus and traffic diagnostics(lol).

Your DOM is just trying to piss off the full time staff - so piss him off by objecting and taking it through the IR framework, if it still exists.
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile

When we had a repick of duties a couple of years back

the walks were picked on seniority wether you were F/T or P/T, at the time I was P/T but was able to pick up a walking duty and had been in the delivery office about a year , but as I had transferred was able to keep my seniority,

Try and get a union rep on it even if it is the area rep
Good luck

Being the operative word - not yet abolished and can still be used as a tie breaker in certain circumstances. IIRC you can still go down the IR framework if local management are changing agreements based on seniority without local agreement.

should be abolished in my opinion.

Actively encourages walkholders and senior staff to become blind to issues that reserves/PT and less senior staff have.

Seniority could work only if workloads become fair for all and postmen work more as a team.

Indeed. In our office , we may be having a re-pick in the not too distant future. When questioned about seniority, the DOM said it would be done on seniority, simply because there wasn't a better alternative :hmmmm .

Actively encourages walkholders and senior staff to become blind to issues that reserves/PT and less senior staff have.

If you have a proper revision the best way to have input is by having on board a senior person a p/t time person and a reserve to cover all angles ,

When we all start on RM were all once reserves and worked our way up the seniority so I cannot see why you think postperson who have been on the job for a long time that he or she should not have seniority to pick a duty,
years ago RM activivly encouraged anyone over 50 would get a lighter walk well that went out of the window along with most other things , but I still say seniority is the fairest way of picking duties, I don't see why someone who has only been on the job a few years or months can have a pick of a duty over someone who has done a lot longer.
It is just unfortunate that the RM managment team have wanted to abolish this as they want to pick who they are there favs and that is why we are in the mess we are and so much bullying is going on and will get worse. :arrrghhh

dont know about re picks but as far as D2D you are entitled to 20% of each shift you cover so even if you are floating you get D2D, why you would want them is another question cause they are sh**e

At our DO you don't get a choice 20% must be done by the cover men each day they do the duty.
