Talks involving TUC and announcement today 28/10/09
Hello all,
Has anyone any idea what's going with these talks involving TUC? Or what decision they could or couldn't come to?
Maybe it's just me but I feel a little kept in the dark.

Not a word, not even any reporters outside for sky news/bbc !! Apparently in talks yesterday , but in different rooms from each other ! 17 union reps voting on whether to see it through or lie down and die.

Surely the Union should be keeping us updated at every stage of this dispute? All this secrecy and talks taking place in different rooms does get you thinking what the future holds.....

Higson and Hadden are hardly likely to attend a PEC meeting, which took place at Congress House are they?
I think the different rooms thing is a bit of a red herring.

It is worrying that any agreement made via the TUC is not legally binding, we should be at ACAS. Will we have to vote to accept or reject the agreement, if and when it's made, like before?

I saw both reports on Sky and News24 - they said meeting were being held by both the CWU with the PE, and RM team had a telephone call/meeting with senior RM figures - for some reason they thought that RM and CWU were not engage face to face when they are. Basically someone heard 2 meetings were being held and made more of it than they should.Big Daz wrote:Higson and Hadden are hardly likely to attend a PEC meeting, which took place at Congress House are they?

I hate it when they try to "Sex" up a story.

Indeed, I would expect them to be discussing/exchanging ideas etc, retire among discuss among their own negotiating teams. You can then come back to the table with a defined position on a given point or points. Everyone is acutely aware of the importance of these meetings.
Are they going to resolve every issue? .. No, of course not. But they must come up with a binding framework that will satisfy the PEC that sufficient progress has been made to postpone the planned action for this week. Ideally the time-frame for completion of the talks should be two weeks maximum. That is ample time if both parties are committed to finding a resolution and provide an Agreement capable of being recommended to CWU members in a ballot.
Irrespective of whether the planned action for this week goes ahead it does not prevent the two sides continuing to seek a resolution to this complex dispute.

STRIKES ARE TO GO AHEAD
CWU have gone back to HQ according to BBC.
Also according to BBC "Not enough progress was made to cancel the strikes"
It may change and if so will announce here - but I don't think it will.
