What back log

in our office today it was one of the easiest Tuesdays we've had for years i was done for 12 some of my mates done even earlier where's the mail?

We were hammered and still stuff has been left in so looks as though tomorrow is going to be busy as well. Perhaps the back log size is directly in proportion to solidness of the strike in particular areas as we were solid (or nearly so).

not far from you TBT,not 1 worker scabbed in our office (1 went to another) and we were as quiet as a quiet tuesday

Quiet Tuesday's turn into quiet wednesdays and then thursdays and then we have posties being laid of everywhere!!!! This is the result of strike action!!!! Do you think that it is acceptable to finish at 12 when you are paid till 1 or 2 in the afternoon. If you worked in a factory and there was no work you would be sent home to make the hours up later on in the week!! Does reason and being sensible mean anything to anyone anymore!!!!

My source in a south London delivery office said the same... his walk was unusually light. He has been sorting almost exclusively for a week prior to this and casuals have been doing his walks.

His opinion was that a lot of the packets must going with other companies as there were hardly any...

I finished at 1.45pm and that include absorbing a walk. It is not too bad. We done all the hard work yesterday. Knowing Royal Mail there will be a bloody nose coming this week.

Friggin hell i wish it was light in our office.

By the time i got prepped and tied up it was 12.30 so i loaded up TWO hcts with 15 bundles in each and gave a hct to two casuals and i only had time to take out 5 specials.

Not a light day in our office IF ONLY.

Welcome to the forum Makes_Sense. Your input is appreciated, however, we would be interested in just how much experience you have had of the postal industry.

My 27 years from the middle 70's and as a manager for 15 years in the print prior to that informs me that if a postman finished early it is frequently due to the system not working and presenting him with a full delivery. At times like this mail is often diverted to other offices. A system that RM relies on but in fact presents far more problems than if they had allowed the principal offices to get on with the job they were designed to do.

By the time you have read this forum and absorbed some of the information about what really goes on in many offices you may think you know it all. In fact, ONLY BY WORKING FOR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS IN A DELIVERY OFFCE to include the Winter of course will you ever have any notion of what a postman's job really entails. I look forward to hearing what you have to say after you have real experience under your belt.

I've just checked if you are still online, M_S, but although its only 51 minutes since you posted you are already away! You'll never learn anything if you don't study just a little bit! Or are you perhaps not really interest in us?
