Postie's low wages

Maybe the strike should also be about wages. My 18 year old daughter in her gap year is working in the local surgery as a receptionist. She is paid (after tax) £218 for a 37 hour week. Last week for 40 hours I was paid £252. Although I like being a postie the pay is crap.

Posties wages are low! its ok if its fine weather on a tuesday when the mail is light but just think of a thursday, heavy rain and wind , sometimes not sure of the round, loads of sigs to get,wet mail because the bags are not waterproof, wet feet etc if you said 20 pounds an hour i may get out of bed if i had the choice. I think a fair wage would be ten pounds an hour after 2 years maybe because this is the time it takes to truley learn the job ,thats roughly 20 000 a year i dont think that is unreasonable and i hope this is on the table in the negotiations.We need a decent living wage .

weekday overtime 3.5 hrs £35.35

Net pay £255.93

What Crozier want's is for us to be on minimum wage----5 hour walks---absorbing other walks---ect ect---then when RM make 700 million profit---he will get 10 million bonus and then retire. As much as you don't like the man, you must admit, he's not stupid is he. :cfo

The first 10 hours of OT are paid at around 80p more than normal rates (about £9.30p/h), then it reverts to normal rates. Basically we get around time and a tenth OT rate

That payslip looks a bit funny though, 3 different hourly rates?

No OT before 40hrs worked AFAIK - doesn't matter if you have a 40hr contract or a 4hr contract - no OT before 40 hrs.....all agreed with the union and accepted by the membership ( just like everything other practice.....but cos Crozier likes this one, it isn't Spanish - but this is another thread altogether )

That's what I meant, I didn't make it clear though Either way that pay slip can't be right - one pay rate for 30hrs, another for 7 hrs then it changes again for the other 3.5hrs?
