You guess wrong I think . This is fundamentally a different situation .
This time it is about RM going for the jugular and putting massive effort into breaking the union and achieving derecognition as a necessary step towards privatisation.
The leadership must be aware of this as is shown by their refusal to call off action in return for sham /stalling talks as occurred last time and as RM detail in their strategy document.
It seems any amount of talks will be welcomed but the union cannot afford to risk a drift of support by standing down action before an acceptable and binding agreement has been delivered.

I understand your point however entering into talks with RM and the TUC is a very risky strategy.
If these talks fail after Billy asking for 3rd party mediation for two weeks it will appear that the Union is intransegent.
Will any agreement RM put on the table at this stage be acceptable ,i doubt it Do Billy and Dave know that,i think they do.
Can we expect Mr Barber to pressure RM into concessions. Not likely.
If the CWU walk away from some makeshift compromise deal i will have great respect for Billy and Dave.
But im worried.......

Somehow i`am not liking what i`m hearing but B&D did say that they would go to any1 ,anytime, anywhere to try and get the talks starting between the 3 amigo`s who haven`t been to constructive meetings lately.just hope they don`t cave in for some cheap deal for over christmas period.after c ing crozier on t.v he seems to have things 2 say now in a smug way as if it`s still going to b our way and that`s that. :cfo :mfo :cfo :mfo .
All valid concerns particularly with the last agreement in mind. However the ground has shifted ,and this time it truly is a battle for the right to have union representation in the workplace.
There is no room for failure or fudge, no point in living to fight another day, this is it. The leadership are aware of this ,they fall short now and we end up with a supine, management controlled "staff association"
In a sense HQ has been forced into a corner and it is now a question of do or die
What worries me is whatever agreement is reached how the f**k do we trust RM to stick to the script as per the last agreement that they have cherry picked the best bits out of.
I think that their bullyboy tactics this year have put the management/union relationship back 10 years the fact that they want to go to the tuc makes me think they are going to pull the same stroke as last time.
Personally as a rep I am going to find it hard to trust the c***s again.
look back,if it was returned as a no vote,we wouldn't even be having this discussion .
they tried to isolate London and failed, this is an entirely different dispute than the last,as the days go by ,i feel more confident, and truly believe the union has a very strong hand.
we can really turn the screw with next weeks strikes, and this time i think the cwu realise it.
With all the talk of support that we have had from different unions, if Brendan Barber doesn't side with the Union bearing in mind that their is ample evidence of what Royal Mail have been up to, then I suggest that the trade union movement in general is dead and buried. Who can we trust if we cannot trust the movement that we are affiliated to.
